INTISARI Penelitian ini membahas Partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaan wisata alam volcano tour merapi di Desa Umbulharjo Kecamatan Cangkringan Kabupaten Sleman. Partisipasi yang dilihat yaitu partisipasi ide, partisipasi tenaga maupun partisipasi pemanfaatan serta membahas faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaa wisata alam volcano tour merapi. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keunikan yang dimiliki wisata alam volcano tour merapi ini, Jika dikelompokkan dalam jenis pariwisata, kegiatan wisata ini dapat masuk ke dalam jenis pariwisata gelap (dark tourism). Dark tourism yaitu tempat yang dapat menarik pengunjung yang berminat pada bencana, tempat pembantaian, dan peristiwa mengerikan lainnya. Berlatar belakang erupsi merapi yang terjadi pada tahun 2010, masyarakat melihat ini sebagai peluang untuk dikembangkan menjadi suatu kawasan wisata. Masyarakat bergotong royong dalam pembangunan kembali objek wisata pasca erupsi merapi dengan menamakan objek wisata ini volcano tour yang sebelumnya bernama larva tour dan ide masyarakat itu berbuahkan hasil, sejak dibukanya kembali merapi sebagai kawasan wisata dengan objek wisata yang beragam, wisatawan datang berbondong-bondong dengan rasa penasaran terhadap dampak erupsi untuk menyaksikan sisa-sisa erupsi merapi. Wisatawan yang datang tidak hanya wisatawan domestik, wisatawan mancanegara pun tidak kalah dalam hal jumlah. Seiring berjalannya waktu wisatawan yang datang ke kawasan wisata alam volcano tour berkurang, hal ini berdampak pula terhadap tingkat partisipasi masyarakat, baik partisipasi ide, tenaga maupun pemanfaatan. Dengan alasan ini, sehingga peneliti merasa perlu untuk melakukan penelitian di kawasan wisata alam volcano tour untuk melihat bagaimana tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaan wisata alam volcano tour merapi serta meneliti faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat partisipasi masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi langsung, dan mencatat dokumen. Teknik cuplikan yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Purposive Sampling. Responden adalah pengelola wisata alam volcano tour sebanyak 20 orang. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada dua, yaitu analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis deskriptif asosiatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat partisipasi yang paling diminati oleh masyarakat pengelola wisata alam volcano tour merapi adalah partisipasi tenaga, partisipasi ide masih sedang sedangkan partisipasi pemanfaatan masih rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan partisipasi tenaga tidak berpengaruh terhadap tingkat pendidikan masyarakat yang mayoritas masih berpendidikan SMP kebawah, partisipasi ide sedang dikarenakan latar belakang pendidikan yang dimiliki masyarakat berpengaruh terhadap kepercayaan diri untuk berbicara di depan orang banyak, sedangkan partisipasi pemanfaatan masih rendah dikarenakan kurangnya modal finansial yang dimiliki masyarakat membuat keinginan utuk membuka usaha di kawasan wisata terbendung. Faktor yang mempengaruhi terhadap tumbuh dan berkembangnya partisipasi masyarakat dilakukan dengan menggunakan model CLEAR antara lain: Can Do, have the resources and knowledge to participate; Like to, have a sense of attachment that reinforces participation; Enable to, are provided with the opportunity for participation; Asked to, are mobilized through public agencies and civic channels; Responded to, see evidence that their views have been considered. ABSTRACT This study examines participation of society in managing nature tourism volcano tour Merapi in DesaUmbulharjo, KecamatanCangkringan, KabupatenSleman. The observed participations are idea participation, brawn participation as well as utilization participation and examination on factors affecting the participation level of the local people in managing volcano tour nature tourism. This background of study is the uniqueness in this volcano tour nature tourism. This type of tourism can belong to dark tourism category. Dark tourism is a location that attracts visitors who are interested in disasters, slaughterhouses and other dreadful incidents. With background like Mount Merapi eruption that happened in 2010, local people considered it as an opportunity to develop the location into a tourist area. Society worked together in rebuilding this tourist attraction after Merapi eruption by naming it as volcano tour which previously known as lava tour and the idea came into fruition. Since the re-opening of the area as tourist area with various tourist attractions, the tourists rolled in for the sake of curiosity about the impacts of the eruption to watch the remains of Merapi eruption. The visitors that came are not only domestic tourists but also a lot of foreign excursionists. As time goes by, the numbers of the visitors coming to volcano tour nature tourism began to dwindle and it impacted to the amount of participation of society, whether in terms of idea, brawn or utilization. For this reason, author thinks that it is necessary to conduct a study at the volcano tour nature tourism location to observe the level of participation of society in managing the nature tourism and to study factors influencing level of the participation. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with data sampling using interviews, direct observations and document recording. The footage method that will be employed is Purposive Sampling. The respondents are 20 volcano tour nature tourism managers. There are two data analysis methods used in this study, statistical descriptive analysis and descriptive associative analysis. The result of this study shows that the participation levels preferred by the society who manage volcano tour nature tourism are brawn or physical strength participation, while participations in idea are still moderate and utilization participations are still low. This is because brawn participations do not have much impact to the participants education level which only reaches junior high school level or even below. The participations of idea are moderate because the education background of the society has impact on their confidence to talk in front of many people, while the utilization participations are still low for lack of capital in financial support from society that hinders their eagerness to open any business in the tourism area. Factors that influence the growing and development of people participation was done by using CLEAR modelsuch as: Can Do, have the resources and knowledge to participate; Like to, have a sense of attachment that reinforces participation; Enable to, are provided with the opportunity for participation; Asked to, are mobilized through public agencies and civic channels; Responded to, see evidence that their views have been considered.
