Konservasi preventif dalam lingkup museum merupakan usaha pelestarian koleksi museum dengan cara mencegah terjadinya kerusakan pada koleksi yang disebabkan oleh adanya agen-agen perusak koleksi. Bebagai cara penangan telah dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan proteksi koleksi museum terhadap agen-agen perusak. Museum Negeri Mpu Tantular adalah salah satu museum di Indonesia yang telah menerapkan tindakan-tindakan penanganan untuk menanggulangi ancaman dari agen-agen perusak tersebut. Museum Negeri Mpu Tantular memiliki koleksi yang sangat bervariasi berdasarkan jenis bahannya. Oleh karena itu konservasi yang diperlukan untuk menjaga kelestarian objek koleksi menjadi sangat kompleks. Selain itu konservasi juga harus dilakukan secara holistik dilingkungan museum agar kerusakan tidak terus berulang. Penelitian dilakukan bersifat deskriptif analitik bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana usaha yang dilakukan Museum Negeri Mpu Tantular dalam memberikan proteksi terhadap koleksinya. Fokus dalam penelitian ini adalah konservasi preventif pada ruang pameran tetap di Museum Negeri Mpu Tantular yang terletak di Desa Sidokerto, Kecamatan Buduran, Sidoarjo. Dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat diketahui bahwa sudah ada usaha untuk memberikan proteksi terhadap koleksi namun dalam beberapa aspek masih memerlukan banyak perhatian untuk diperbaiki.

Preventive conservation within the scope of the museum is a preservation effort by preventing damage to museum's collections which caused by the agents of deterioration. Various methods have been developed to improve the protection of the museum's collections against agents of deterioration. The State Museum of Mpu Tantular is one of Indonesian Museum which has implemented measures to deal with threats from agents of deterioration. The State Museum of Mpu Tantular has a collection of very varied based on the type of material. Therefore, conservation is necessary to preserve the collection becomes very complex objects. Besides conservation should also be done in a holistic manner within the museum so that damage is not repeated. This study aims based on descriptive analytic to determine how far the State Museum of Mpu Tantular's effort in providing protection to their collections. The focus of this research is preventive conservation on permanent exhibition at the State Museum of Mpu Tantular which located in the village of Sidokerto, subdistrict of Buduran in Sidoarjo region. From the research that has been done can be seen that there have been efforts to provide protection to the collection but in some aspects still need a lot of attention for repair.
