Pompa Degasser no 3 adalah salah satu peralatan vital yang berada di PT.Pertamina RU V Balikpapan. Pompa ini terletak di plant demint water destilation yang berfungsi untuk memompakan air dari tanki degasser menuju ke tanki anion yang nanti digunakan sebagai air umpan boiler. Pengkajian ini bertujuan agar mengetahui penyebab kegagalan poros pada pompa degasser no 3 dengan metode literature (Library Research) dan studi lapangan (Field Research). Pada pompa degasser no 3 terjadi kegagalan poros berupa patahnya poros di dekat impeller, material poros terbuat dari SS 361 yang memiliki sifat mekanik keuletan yang tinggi dan tahan terhadap laju korosi. Kegagalan poros di identifikasi dari 3 variable utama yaitu getaran, jenis patahan, dan bantalan. Dari hasil pengamatan kegagalan poros pada pompa degasser no 3 karena umur pakai poros, yang dipercepat dengan adanya getaran yang diakibatkan kocaknya bantalan karena terkontaminasinya lube oil dengan air dari bocoran gland packing yang masuk ke dalam housing bearing, dan jenis patahan yang terjadi pada poros adalah patahan lelah (fatigue).

Degasser pump num. 3 is one of the vital equipment that is in PT.Pertamina RU V Balikpapan. This pump is located at the plant demint water destilation which serves to pump water from the tank toward to degasser anion tank which will be used as boiler feed water. This assessment aims to determine the cause of the failure of the pump shaft degasser num. 3 by method of literature (Library Research) and field study (field research). In the degasser pump num. 3 shaft failure occurs in the form of its broken shaft near to the impeller and the shaft material is made of ss 361 which is has high tenacity mechanical properties and resistance to the rate of corrosion. The failure of shaft is identified by 3 primary variables such as vibration, type of faulting, and bearing. Based on the result of failure shaft observation on degasser pump num. 3 is caused of period of time usage and its accelerated by lessen of bearing which is caused of existence of vibration due to contaminated of the lube oil with the waters from leakage of gland packing, which enters the housing bearing, and type of faulting hap to the shaft is foulting fatigue.
