Sistem pentanahan atau biasa disebut grounding adalah sistem pengamanan terhadap perangkat-perangkat yang mempergunakan listrik sebagai sumber tenaga, dari lonjakan listrik, petir dll. Tujuan utama dari adanya pentanahan adalah menciptakan jalur yang low-impedance (tahanan rendah) terhadap permukaan bumi untuk gelombang listrik dan transient voltage. Penerangan, arus listrik, circuit switching dan electrostatic discharge adalah penyebab umum dari adanya sentakan listrik atau transient voltage. Sistem pentanahan yang efektif akan meminimalkan efek tersebut. Karakteristik sistem pentanahan yang efektif yaitu: terencana dengan baik, semua koneksi yang terdapat pada data center harus merupakan koneksi yang sudah direncanakan sebelumnya dengan kaidah-kaidah tertentu; verifikasi secara visual dapat dilakukan; menghindarkan gangguan yang terjadi pada arus listrik dari perangkat; semua komponen metal harus ditahan/diikat oleh sistem pentanahan, dengan tujuan untuk meminimalkan arus listrik melalui material yang bersifat konduktif pada potensial listrik yang sama.

Earthing system or grounding is commonly referred as a security system to devices that use electricity as a power source, from a power surge, lightning etc. The mainof the grounding is to create a low-impedance path (low prisoners) against the surface of the earth for electricity and transient voltage surge. Lightning, electric current, circuit switching and electrostatic discharge is a common cause of the power failure or transient voltage surges. Effective earthing system will minimize the effect. Characteristics of an effective earthing system are: planned well, all connections contained in the data center should constitute a planned connection with certain rules; verification can be done visually; avoid distruption of the electrical current from the device; all metal components shall be detained / bound by earthing system, with the aim of minimizing the electric current through a material that conductive to the same electrical potential.
