Tugas Akhir ini berjudul Terjemahan Cerita Novel Higurashi no Ki Karya Hamuro Rin. Novel Higurashi no Ki mengangkat tema tentang kehidupan samurai dan seppuku. Kisah kesetiaan dan ketulusan cinta di tengah kerasnya hidup sebagai samurai yang nasibnya selalu berujung pada kematian, baik karena harus bunuh diri demi kehormatan atau mati sebagai prajurit yang membela bangsa dalam pertempuran. Cerita Novel Higurashi no Ki karya Hamuro Rin ini dipilih karena memiliki daya tarik, terutama karena adanya informasi budaya di dalam cerita. Pengetahuan budaya tersebut, terutama mengenai budaya seppuku yang harus dilakukan oleh samurai demi mempertahankan kehormatan mereka. Dalam Tugas Akhir ini juga dipaparkan tentang kesulitan-kesulitan yang dialami selama menerjemahkan cerita. Dalam menerjemahkan novel ini, digunakan metode komunikatif untuk menghasilkan karya terjemahan yang mudah dipahami dengan mengutamakan ketepatan makna. Metode ini berusaha untuk tetap mempertahankan makna kontekstual dari bahasa sumber, sehingga isi maupun bahasanya dapat diterima dan dipahami oleh pembaca.

The subject of this graduating paper is Translation of the novel Higurashi no Ki by Hamuro Rin. The theme of the novel is the life of the samurai and the seppuku. It is a tale of loyalty and honesty in the samurais hard life, whose fate always ends in death, either because he has to commit suicide with honour or die as a soldier defending his country in war. Hamuro Rins novel has been choosen because of its attractive theme and because of the cultural information it contains. This concerns in particular the ritual of seppuku that has to be performed by the samurai in order to maintain his honour. This graduating paper also deals with the problems faced in translating the text. In translating the novel the communicative method has been applied so as to obtain a translation that is easily understandable and focuses on the precise rendering of what is mean. This method tries to maintain the contextual meaning of the source language so that the reader becomes known both with the content and the style of the novel.
