Pola Perkembangan Kota Ternate Terkait Keberadaan Benteng Bekas Penjajahan

Perkembangan sebuah kota merupakan suatu perwujudan aktivitas manusia yang senantiasa mengalami perubahan dari waktu ke waktu. Pada perkembangannya terdapat beberapa nilai yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam pengembangan sebuah kota yakni nilai sosial masyarakat, ekonomi, lingkungan dan budaya. Dalam hal ini budaya merupakan salah satu nilai yang memiliki peranan yang besar terhadap perkembangan kota terutama terhadap kota-kota bersejarah yang berada di Indonesia. Salah satunya Kota Ternate memiliki sejarah yang luar biasa. Ternate pernah menjadi magnet bagi Bangsa Eropa sejak abad ke-16 untuk merebut dan menguasainya. Demi hal tersebut, Bangsa Eropa mendirikan benteng sebagai sarana pertahanan militer. Kemudian pada saat ini, benteng-benteng bekas penjajahan tersebut disinyalir memiliki peran terhadap perkembangan Kota. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini ingin menggambarkan pola perkembangan dan mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi perkembangan Kota Ternate serta membuktikan pengaruh keberadaan benteng terhadap perkembangan Kota Ternate yang disinyalir memiliki pengaruh terhadap perkembangan Kota Ternate. Dengan menggunakan kasus Kecamatan Ternate Utara, Ternate Tengah, Ternate Selatan dan Pulau Ternate serta menggunakan pendekatan penelitian studi kasus eksploratif. Penelitian ini melihat bahwa dalam perkembangan Kota Ternate pola perkembangannya adalah berbentuk linear dengan mengarah ke selatan serta terdapat faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya, yaitu pengaruh benteng terhadap perkembangan Kota Ternate, keberadaan Gunung Gamalama sebagai penghambat arah perkembangan Kota Ternate, pengaruh perekonomian terhadap pusat aktivitas di Kota Ternate, serta pengaruh Kesultanan Ternate terhadap perkembangan wilayah kaula kesultanan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis didapatkan bahwa terdapat pergeseran terhadap faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi perkembangan Kota Ternate dari masa kolonialisme hingga masa modern. Pada masa kolonialisme, peran benteng terhadap perkembangan Kota Ternate sangat dominan sebagai pertahanan militer yang memberikan kesan keamanan terhadap persebaran permukiman di sekitaran benteng dan fungsi benteng sebagai gudang pengumpulan cengkeh yang disinyalir menimbulkan multipier effect terhadap aktivitas perdagangan di sekitaran benteng. Berbeda dengan masa modern, faktor yang begitu dominan dalam perkembangan Kota Ternate adalah perekonomian yang menjadi magnet terhadap pusat-pusat aktivitas masyarakat dengan keberadaan pasar-pasar induk dan pertokoan. Kegiatan perekonomian telah mempengaruhi pusat-pusat aktivitas.

The development of a city is a manifestation of human activity that are constantly changing from time to time. In the development of city, there are some values that need to be considered, the values are social, economic, environmental and cultural. In this case the culture is one of the values that have constituted the development of the city, especially to the historic cities located in Indonesia. Ternate, that is one of the historic city located in Indonesia has a remarkable history. Ternate used to be a magnet for Europeans since the 16th century. For the sake of this, the European Nations established the fort as a means of military defense. Then at this time, the former colonial forts is alleged to have a role on the development of the city. Therefore, this research wants to describe the patterns of development and to identify the dominant factors affecting the development of Ternate and prove the existence of the fort influence on the development of Ternate who might have an influence on the development of Ternate. By using the location of Northern Ternate, Central Ternate, Ternate Island Dstrict and the Southern Ternate and also using explorative case study research approach. The research figure out that in the development of Ternate has linear pattern and also the direction is going to the southern area. There are also factors that influence the development itsself, where these factors are the influence fort against the development of Ternate, Gamalama as resistor direction of development in Ternate, the influence of the economy towards the center of activity in the city of Ternate, as well as the influence of Ternate Sultanate on the development of the area around it. The result of the analysis shows that there is a shift towards the dominant factor affecting the development of Ternate City of colonialism up to modern times. At the time of colonialism, the role of fort against the development of Ternate is very dominant as a military defense that gives the impression of security against the spread of settlements, and also the fort functions as a warehouse collecting cloves which allegedly raises multipier effect on trading activity Area fortress. In contrast to the modern era, the dominant factor in the development of Ternate is the economy that becomes a magnet to the centers of community activity with the presence of central markets and shops. Economic activity has affected the devolopment.
