KETERPECAHAN SOSOK IBU DALAM MR STINK KARYA DAVID WALLIAMS

Penelitian ini membahas tentang sosok ibu yang terpecah dalam novel Mr Stink karya David Walliams. Sosok ibu yang terdapat dalam novel ini didekonstruksi dan berbeda dengan sosok ibu tradisional karya sastra anak lain. Kebaruan tersebut digambarkan dalam ambisi untuk terjun dalam dunia politik. Namun, teks yang terdekonstruksi sekalipun masih bisa terikat dengan oposisi biner hierarkis. Oleh karena itu, dekonstruksi dipakai untuk mengungkap keterpecahan sosok ibu dengan menganalisis struktur dari oposisi biner hierarkis dan menunjukkan paradoks serta kontradiksi makna dalam teks. Data yang berhasil dikumpulkan dari Mr Stink karya Walliams dianalisis dengan pembacaan dekonstruksi dalam dua tahap: interpretasi dominan dan dekonstruksi-diri teks. Data merujuk pada yang tertulis dan ketidahadiran. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah oposisi-oposisi biner hierarkis menciptakan pemaknaan Janet Crumb sebagai sosok ibu yang tidak baik, tidak adil, hipokrit, pilih kasih, ambisius, dan dominan. Patriarki dan feodalisme mengukuhkan struktur dan pemaknaan dari oposisi-oposisi biner hierarkis dalam novel Mr Stink karya David Walliams. Sosok ibu yang mengalami dekonstruksi diri memperlihatkan keterpecahan dalam hal pengasuhan anak, mitos rumah ideal, politik, dan keterpecahan sosok ayah. Dampak dari keterpecahan ini menunjukkan bahwa patriarki tidak hanya berimbas pada perempuan. Selain itu, terlihat jelas dalam teks ini bahwa seseorang dari kelas menengah tidak akan bisa merangkak naik ke kelas sosial yang lebih tinggi.

This research explains about fragmented mother figure in Mr Stink by David Walliams. Deconstructed mother figure in this novel is different from traditional mother figure in other children’s literary works. The novelty is depicted in ambition to enter into politics. However, a deconstructed text cannot be separated from hierarchical binary opposition. Thus, deconstruction is used to reveal mother figure fragmentation by analyzing the structure of hierarchical binary opposition and the paradox and contradiction of meaning in this text. Data collected from Mr Stink by David Walliams is analyzed using two layers of deconstructive reading, dominant interpretation and text’s self-deconstruction. The data refers the writing of the text and the absence. The result of this research is hierarchical binary oppositions signify Janet Crumb as the representation of mother figure as wicked, step motherly, hypocritical, ambitious, and dominant. Patriarchy and feudalism brace the structure and signification of hierarchical binary oppositions in Mr Stink by David Walliams. Self-deconstructed mother figure discloses fragmentation in children nurturing, ideal home myth, and politics, as well as fragmentation of father figure. As the consequence, patriarchy does not only affect women. Besides, it is clearly shown that someone coming from middle class cannot climb to higher social status.
