Proses pendistribusian tenaga listrik sangat bergantung pada keandalan sistem penyaluran dan sistem proteksi. Jika sistem proteksi kurang baik, maka keandalan dari system distribusi juga kurang optimal, sehingga hal tersebut dapat berdampak pada kerugian PT PLN (Persero) dan konsumen. Relai arus lebih (OCR) dan Relai gangguan tanah (GFR) merupakan peralatan proteksi yang terpasang pada jaringan distribusi, yang berfungsi untuk mengamankan adanya arus lebih akibat gangguan hubung singkat. Kedua relai tersebut terpasang pada Gardu Induk serta Gardu Hubung. Pada sisi gardu hubung, kedua relai tersebut berada dalam peralatan recloser. Recloser atau Pemutus Balik Otomatis ini berfungsi mendeteksi adanya arus lebih akibat gangguan hubung singkat dan dapat memisahkan wilayah yang mengalami gangguan, sehingga dapat mempersempit wilayah yang padam. Recloser dapat bekerja optimal apabila penempatan pada jaringan dan nilai setting kerjanya tepat. Koordinasi waktu kerja antar peralatan proteksi juga diperlukan agar gangguan yang terjadi tidak meluas sampai bagian yang tidak terganggu.

The process of distributing electricity power depends very much on renowned of the system of distribution and protection system. If the protection system is not good, the renowned of distribution system is less optimum so it effects on the state electricity company and consumers loss. Over current relay and Ground fault relay is a protecting equipment which are installed on distribution network. Which are function to save over current which is resulted by the disturbance of short circuit. Both the relay are installed on swith yard and substation circuit. On the side of substation circuit those relays are placed in the recloser. The automatic recloser is functioned to detec over current which is resalted from the disturbance of short circuit and it can separated the area which are in disturbance so it can narrow the black out area. Recloser can run optimumly if the recloser is placed on the appropriate network and setting value. The timing work coordination between protection equipment is also needed in order that the disturbance will not widen to undisturbed area.
