Dinasti Politik di Amerika: Studi Kasus Dinasti Politik Kennedy

Penelitian ini menganalisis dinasti politik di Amerika dan fokus pada dinasti politik Kennedy. Amerika Serikat sebagai negara demokratis masih terdapat praktek politik dinasti bahkan sejak berdirinya negara tersebut. Meskipun faktanya dinasti politik di Amerika tidak disebut sebagai nepotisme selama tidak melanggar konstitusi sebagaimana dinyatakan bahwa seorang pejabat publik tidak boleh menunjuk atau mempromosikan kerabatnya untuk menempati jabatan tertentu di mana dia menjabat. Klan Kennedy merupakan salah satu dinasti politik paling populer di Amerika. Lebih dari setengah abad dinasti ini menduduki jabatan penting di pemerintahan dan masih terus eksis hingga sekarang. Analisa mengenai peran pemerintahan mereka dalam politik Amerika serta upaya yang dilakukan dalam mempertahankan keberlangsungan dinasti politik mereka merupakan tujuan dari penelitian ini. Metode penelitian kualitatif digunakan dengan penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif eksplanatif. Metode ini mencoba menganalisis dengan menjelaskan dan menguraikan informasi yang diperoleh dari studi pustaka dengan didukung oleh teori budaya politik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga peran signifikan dalam pemerintahan keluarga Kennedy, yaitu meningkatkan toleransi antarwarga Amerika, melakukan reformasi perlindungan kesehatan, serta meningkatkan pamor AS di kancah internasional. Selain itu upaya yang dilakukan Kennedy untuk mempertahankan keberlangsungan dinasti mereka adalah dengan mempertahankan ambisi, membentuk tim yang kuat, kampanye inovatif dan terorganisir, membangun image di media, melakukan lobby dan kecurangan, serta memanfaatkan kepopuleran nama keluarga. Keenam hal tersebut saling berkaitan erat satu sama lain yang didukung oleh perspektif positif publik AS terhadap mereka sehingga menjadikan keluarga Kennedy masih menempati posisi penting dalam politik AS hingga sekarang.

This study analyzes the political dynasties in America and focus on the Kennedy political dynasty. The United States as a democratic country still practices a political dynasty even since the founding of the country. Despite the fact that political dynasties in America was not called as nepotism as long as it does not violate the Constitution stated that a public official should not appoint or promote his relatives to occupy certain positions in which he served. Kennedy clan is one of the most popular political dynasties in America. More than half a century, this dynasty occupy important positions in government and still continue to exist until today. Analysis of the role of their government in American politics as well as their efforts in maintaining the continuity of their political dynasty is the purpose of this study. Qualitative research methods is used with an explanatory descriptive research. This method tries to explain and analyze the information obtained from literature study, supported by the theory of political culture. The result of this study indicates that there are three significant roles during the Kennedy family governance, which are increasing tolerance among American people, reforming the health protection, as well as improving US prestige in the international sphere. In addition, the efforts engaged by Kennedy to maintain the continuity of their dynasty is preserving the ambition, formed a strong team, innovative and organized campaigns, image building in the media, lobbying and fraud, as well as exploiting the popularity of their family name. Those six are closely interconnected with each other, supported by a positive perspective of the US public towards them so as to make the Kennedy family still occupies an important position in politics until now.
