Lepra merupakan penyakit infeksi granulomatosa yang dapat menyerang kulit, saraf dan muskuloskeletal. Manifestasi dapat terjadi pada kulit, saraf dan sendi secara bersamaan, sehingga dapat mengarahkan penegakkan diagnosis, tetapi dapat juga berdiri sendiri sebagai artritis. Pada pasien lepra, keluhan nyeri sendi dapat merupakan gambaran perjalanan penyakit lepra, tetapi dapat juga artritis jenis lain yang diderita penderita lepra. Penelitian ini mencari perbedaan gambaran artritis leprosi dengan artritis reumatoid pada foto polos manus, sehingga diharapkan penegakkan diagnosis artritis leprosi dapat dilakukan lebih dini yang dapat dilanjutkan dengan terapi antimikroba secepat mungkin untuk mencegah deformitas tulang.
