REFUSALS AND POLITENESS STRATEGIES IN AN AMERICAN ANIMATION MOVIE ENTITLED 'WRECK IT RALPH'

2015 | Skripsi | S1 SASTRA INGGRISPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti strategi penolakan dan strategi kesopanan dalam penolakan yang dihasilkan oleh penutur di film animasi Amerika yang berjudul kutip Wreck It Ralph kutip. Untuk penelitian ini, data yang digunakan adalah kalimat yang mengandung unsur penolakan yang diambil dari subtitle film. Penolakan - penolakan yang sudah dikumpulkan diklasifikasi dengan menggunakan strategi penolakan dari Beebe, Takahashi dan Uliss-Weltz (1990) dan strategi kesopanan dari Brown and Levinson (1978). Hasil dari klasifikasi yang sudah dilakukan menyatakan bahwa terdapat 33 penolakan yang ditemukan di dalam film. Hasil dari klasifikasi penolakan menunjukan bahwa dari 33 penolakan, terdapat 10 (30.3%) penolakan langsung dan 23 (69.7%) penolakan tidak langsung. Penolakan langsung non performative kutip no kutip dianggap sebagai strategi yang paling umum digunakan oleh penutur di dalam film dengan 9 penolakan. Hasil klasifikasi strategi kesopanan menunjukan bahwa dari 33 penolakan, terdapat 10 (30.4%) strategi Bald, on record, 14 (42.4%) strategi positive politeness, 2 (6%) strategi negative politeness, 5 (15.2%) strategi off record (indirect), dan 2 (6%) strategi do not do the face threatening act. Strategi bald, on record dianggap sebagai strategi yang paling umum digunakan oleh penutur. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam mengekspresikan penolakan, penutur tidak meminimalisir ancaman yang dapat mengancam muka lawan tutur karena kondisi kondisi yang dialami oleh para penutur, seperti keadaan darurat dan keadaan yang mengancam nyawa para penutur. Selain itu, hubungan antara penutur dan penutur lainnya didalam film juga bisa mempengaruhi hasil dari penggunaan strategi ini.
This research paper aims to investigate refusal strategies and politeness strategies in the refusals uttered by the characters in an American animation movie entitled apostrophe Wreck It Ralph apostrophe. The data for this research were utterances that contain refusals which are taken from the English subtitle in the movie. The refusals were classified based on refusal strategies proposed by Beebe, Takahashi and Uliss-Weltz (1990), and politeness strategies outlined by Brown and Levinson (1978). The result revealed that there were 33 refusals found in the movie. The outcome from refusal strategies showed that from 33 refusals, 10 occurrences (30.3%) were direct refusals and 23 occurrences (69.7%) were indirect refusals. The result turned out that the most strategy used by the characters in the movie is direct refusal in non performative statement apostrophe no apostrophe with 9 refusals found. As for politeness strategies, the result revealed that from 33 refusals, 10 occurrences (30.4%) were Bald on record strategy, 14 occurrences (42.4%) were positive politeness strategies, 2 occurrences (6%) were negative politeness strategies, 5 occurrences (15.2%) were off record strategies, and 2 occurrences (6%) were strategy of do not do the FTA. The most strategy that the characters used in the movie is Bald on record strategy. From the results, it can be concluded that the characters in expressing refusals do not seek to minimize the threat in other characters face while doing the FTA because of different circumstances that the characters through in the movie, such as urgent and life-threatening situations. In addition, the relationships between the characters also might influence the refusals and politeness strategies that they used in the movie.
