PENGARUH APLIKASI TOPIKAL GEL EKSTRAK KULIT MANGGIS (Garcinia mangostana L.) TERHADAP KEPADATAN SERABUT KOLAGEN TULANG ALVEOLAR PADA PERIODONTITIS Sprague dawley

Periodontitis diawali dari peradangan pada gingiva yang dapat bertambah parah hingga menyebabkan hilangnya perlekatan jaringan periodontal dan kehilangan gigi. Ekstrak kulit manggis mengandung gamma-mangostin yang mempunyai aktivitas anti-inflamasi. Kolagen merupakan komponen penting dalam tulang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi topikal gel ekstrak kulit manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) terhadap kepadatan serabut kolagen tulang alveolar pada periodontitis Sprague dawley. Tiga puluh enam tikus Sprague dawley jantan berumur 2,5-3 bulan, dibagi dalam 3 kelompok yakni perlakuan gel ekstrak kulit manggis 10%, kontrol positif gel ibuprofen 10%, dan kontrol negatif gel CMC-Na 2%. Induksi periodontitis dilakukan menggunakan steel-ligature selama 1 minggu. Ketiga kelompok tersebut didekapitasi berdasarkan waktu pengamatan pada hari ke-3, 5, 7, dan 14. Hasil uji analisis Kruskall-Wallis dan uji Mann-Whitney menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah aplikasi topikal gel ekstrak kulit manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) dapat meningkatkan kepadatan serabut kolagen tulang alveolar pada periodontitis Sprague dawley, namun gel ekstrak kulit manggis memberikan efek yang hampir sama dengan gel ibuprofen.

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease in gingiva and can get worse with the result of the loss of periodontal attachment of the teeth and tooth loss. Mangosteen peel extract containing gamma-mangostin which have anti-inflammatory activity. Collagen is an important component in the bone which has an important role in the development of tissues and organs.. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of topical application of Garcinia mangostana Linn on alveolar bone density of collagen fibers in Sprague Dawley periodontitis. Thirty-six male Sprague Dawley rats, 2.5-3 months age were randomly divided into 3 groups. The group applied 10% mangosteen peel extract gel, 10% ibuprofen gel, and 2% CMC-Na gel. Induction of periodontitis using stainless-ligature for 1 week. The third group were decapitated by the time of observation on days 3, 5, 7, and 14. The results of the analysis of Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test show a significant difference (p <0.05). The conclusion of this study is the application of a topical gel mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana L.) can increase the alveolar bone density of collagen fibers in Sprague Dawley periodontitis, but it has the similar effect to ibuprofen gel.
