IDENTITAS PEMUDA BATAK KRISTEN DIASPORA: KEKRISTENAN DAN KEBATAKAN DALAM IDEALITAS DAN REALITAS DI HKBP

Tulisan ini membahas identitas pemuda Batak Kristen diaspora yang bergulat dalam idealitas dan realitas terhadap Kebatakan dan Kekristenan di HKBP.Pembahasan dilakukan melalui penelitian kualitatif secaraetnografis dan wawancara di tiga gereja HKBP di Distrik XIX Bekasi, selama Oktober-Nopember 2014. Penelitian menemukan bahwa pemuda menghadapi pergulatan dalam identitas Batak dan Kristen yang berpadu. Hal ini terjadi karena realitas pemuda belum menguasai sepenuhnya hal-hal Kebatakan: sementara idealitas orang tua dan gereja menginginkan pemuda menguasai Kebatakan. Dalam pergulatan identitas di antara idealitas dan realitas, diketahui bahwa pemuda bernegosiasi untuk memahami Kebatakan; kemudian berkontestasi supaya didengar; dan menyatakan proyeksi sebagai eksistensi. Melalui proses ini, penelitian menemukan bahwa identitas pemuda Batak Kristen diaspora adalah identitas berproses. Bagi pemuda identitas bukanlah sesuatu yang kaku dan baku. Mereka berpandangan bahwa identitas adalah proses menjadi; yang di dalamnya ada negosiasi, kontestasi, dan proyeksi.

This research discusses the identity of Christian youth inthe Batak diaspora by focusing on how they negotiate the ideals of Christianity and Batakness in their reality, based on qualitative ethnographic research and interviews in three churches in Bekasi, Distrik XIX of Huria Kristen Batak Protestan, during October-November 2014. The study found that youth in the diaspora face the struggle of blended identities as Christians and Batak. The struggle is caused by the combination of Christianity and Batakness in the church, while, in reality, youth have not fully mastered the ideality of Batakness as the Church and their parents demand. In the struggle of identity, this study show how the youth negotiate their understanding of Batakness, which then contest it for getting attention, and finally declare projections for their identity. In that process, the study found that youth understand their identity into Batak Christian diaspora as processing identity. Identity is formedthrough negotiation, contestation, and projection. For the diaspora Batak Christian youth, identity is not rigid. Identity is a process of becoming.
