PENGARUH KONSENTRASI EKSTRAK DAUN GAMBIR (Uncaria gambir) DALAM OBAT KUMUR SEBAGAI INHIBITOR KOROSI KAWAT ORTODONTIK BERBAHAN DASAR STAINLESS STEEL

Korosi yang terjadi pada kawat orotodontik berbahan dasar stainless steel dapat menyebabkan berkurangnya kekuatan dan fleksibilitas pada kawat tersebut. Ekstrak daun gambir diketahui memiliki potensi yang dapat menghambat laju korosi pada beberapa jenis logam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh konsentrasi ekstrak daun gambir (Uncaria gambir) dalam obat kumur sebagai inhibitor korosi kawat ortodontik berbahan dasar stainless steel. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratoris dengan menggunakan 20 kawat stainless steel yang dibagi dalam 4 kelompok perlakuan yaitu konsentrasi ekstrak daun gambir 0%, 0,3%, 0,6% dan 1%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak daun gambir setelah 0,3% dapat mengakibatkan penurunan laju korosi kawat ortodontik berbahan dasar stainless steel dan konsentrasi ekstrak daun gambir 1% paling efektif dalam menghambat laju korosi kawat ortodontik berbahan dasar stainless steel.

Corrosion that occurs in orthodontic wire based stainless steel may cause a reduction in the strength and flexibility in the wire. Gambier leaf extract is known to have the potential to inhibit the rate of corrosion on some kind of metal. This study aimed to examine the effect of the concentration of gambier leaf extract (Uncaria gambier) in mouthwash as corrosion inhibitor orthodontic wire based stainless steel. This study was a laboratory experimental with 20 stainless steel wire which is divided into 4 treatment groups, the concentration of gambier leaf extract 0%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 1%. The results of this study showed that increasing the concentration of gambier leaf extract after a 0.3% can reduce the corrosion rate of orthodontic wire based stainless steel and the concentration of gambier leaf extract 1% of the most effective in inhibiting the corrosion rate of orthodontic wire based stainless steel.
