GAYA KEPEMIMPINAN DALAM MENCIPTAKAN KOMUNIKASI EFEKTIF ANTARA ATASAN DAN BAWAHAN

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gaya kepemimpinan yang terbangun di Jurusan Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika FMIPA UGM dilihat dari sudut pandang kontribusi komunikasi efektif. Penelitian gaya kepemimpinan ini menjadi sangat menarik untuk dianalisis karena Jurusan Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika merupakan jurusan baru yang merupakan penggabungan dua program studi di jurusan yang berbeda pada FMIPA UGM. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan gaya kepemimpinan, instruksi kerja dan pelaksanaan tugas, komunikasi efektif, media komunikasi, dan situasi untuk mengetahui seberapa besar peranan komunikasi efektif dalam penentuan gaya kepemimpinan sehingga dapat menciptakan komunikasi efektif di JIKE. Untuk mengupas gaya kepemimpinan peneliti menggunakan Path Goal Theory dan Gaya Kepemimpinan Situasional sebagai pembahasan yang lebih mendalam pada penelitian ini. Sedangkan komunikasi efektif disini menggunakan Teori Jaringan yang mempunyai keterkaitan yang erat dengan komunikasi organisasi dan melihat situasi kepemimpinan di Jurusan Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kasus yang menggunakan teknik kualitatif dengan melakukan observasi dan wawancara terhadap pimpinan di Jurusan Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika. Keabsahan dan kredibilitas data dilakukan menggunakan triangulasi data dengan kroscek data dengan menyebar kuesioner tertutup, terbuka, dan menggunakan wawancara informal dengan staf kependidikan terkait jawaban yang membutuhkan penjelasan lebih detail. Wawancara dengan staf kependidikan dilakukan dengan cara informal untuk menggali lebih dalam pembahasan penelitian ini. Hasil dari penelitian ini memperlihatkan pemahaman gaya kepemimpinan terbangun karena kontribusi dari komunikasi di Jurusan Ilmu Komputer dan Elektronika. Media komunikasi, instruksi pimpinan dan pelaksanaan tugas bawahan, komunikasi efektif dan faktor situasi menentukan penerapan gaya kepemimpinan Kata kunci : Gaya kepemimpinan dan komunikasi efektif (Style of leadership and effective communication)

This study aims to analyze the style of leadership developed in the Department of Computer Science and Electronics Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM that is seen from point of view on the contribution of effective communication. This study on the style of leadership becomes very interesting to analize because Department of Computer Science and Electronics Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM is a new department which is merger of two study programs in the different departments in FMIPA UGM. This study uses style of leadership, work instruction and implementation of task, effective communication, communication media, and situation to find out how big the role of effective communication in determining the style of leadership in order to create the effective communication in JIKE. To elaborate the style of leadership, the researcher uses Path Goal Theory and the Style of Situational Leadership as depth discussion in this study. Meanwhile, the effective communication here uses Theory of Network that has close relationship to organization communication and sees the situation of leadership in the Department of Computer Sciences and Electronics. The research method used is case study that implements qualitative technique by using observation and interview with the leaders in the Department of Computer Sciences and Electronics. Validity and credibility of the data is done by using data triangulation with data crosscheck. That is applied by distributing closed questionnaire, open questionnaire, and using informal interview with the educational staffs related to the questions that need detail explanation. The interview with the educational staffs is done informally to escavate deeper the discussion of this study. This research’s results show that the understanding on the style of leadership is established because of the contribution of communication in the Department of Computer Sciences and Electronics. The communication media, instruction of the leader and implementation of subordinate’s task, the effective communication and factor of situation determine the implementation of style of the leadership.
