The research aimed at finding out the frequencies of medical illness patient with a high risk score of VTE and give the suggested choice of prophylaxis.

BACKGROUND: Venous Thrombo Embolism (VTE) is a blood clot that dominantly happen in the lower leg, especially happens more often in the lower thigh, which can arise as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Pulmonary Embolism (PE) if the blood clot is located at lungs vessel. Prevention of VTE is very important, some intervention are recommended including anticoagulant therapy and other non-medical therapy including mechanical intervention. That is why identification of patient with high risk of VTE is important. OBJECTIVE: The research aimed at finding out the frequencies of medical illness patient with a high risk score of VTE and give the suggested choice of prophylaxis. METHOD: Data from 280 patients status were taken from IRNA 1 department in RSUP Dr Sardjito and analyzed using Padua risk assessment model to know the frequency of each VTE risks. RESULT: From 280 patients, 181 patients are categorized as low risk (64,6%), 99 patients are categorized as high risk (35,4%), 12 (12%) patients have high risk of VTE and high bleeding risk. CONCLUSION: From this study we can conclude that among hospitalized medical illness patient, the risk of VTE is relatively high (35,4% or 99 patient from 280 patient) and they never got prophylaxis treatment before. And the major risk factor that increase VTE are active cancer, reduce mobility, heart or respiratory failure.
