THE FOURTH DIMENSION AS SEEN IN H.G. WELLS THE TIME MACHINE

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran teori waktu sebagai dimensi keempat yang terdapat dalam plot dari sebuah novel. Objek penelitian ini adalah novel yang berjudul The Time Machine olehH.G. Wells. Dalam analisis, penulis menggunakan pendekatan Strukturalisme Dinamis. Pendekatan ini diaplikasikan untuk membagi analisis ke dalam dua bagian. Bagian pertama dimaksudkan untuk menganalisa plot pada novel, adapun bagian kedua untuk mengungkap gambaran-gambaran teori waktu sebagai dimensi keempat yang ada dalam unsur tersebut. Dasar dari teori waktu sebagai dimensi keempat adalah Teori Relativitas Khusus oleh Albert Einstein. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa waktu sebagai dimensi keempat digambarkan dalam plot dari karya tersebut. Teori waktu sebagai dimensi keempat memungkinkan manusia untuk melakukan perjalanan ke masa depan.

This research aims to investigate the portrait of time as fourth dimension theory in the plot of a novel. The object of this research is the novel entitled The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. In the analysis, the present writer uses Dynamic Structuralism approach. It is applied to divide the analysis in two sections. The first section analyzes the plot of the novel and the second reveals the representations of time as fourth dimension theory that is portrayed in the element. The basis for time as fourth dimension theory is the Theory of Special Relativity by Albert Einstein. The result of the study shows that the fourth dimension is portrayed in the plot of the work. Time as fourth dimension theory enables people to travel to the future.
