African American Women in the End of the Twentieth Century as Reflected in Carolyn M. Rodgers’ Poems in The Heart as Ever Green

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan pencarian kesetaraan sebagai sebuah respon terhadap kondisi kehidupan dan masalah penindasan terhadap kaum Afrika Amerika melalui puisi Rodgers dalam buku ini dan bagaimana hal tersebut tercerminkan dalam agenda Feminisme kulit hitam sebagai sebuah pergerakan. Sumber data dari penelitian ini berasal dari buku antologi puisi Rodgers yang berjudul The Heart as Ever Green. Fokus Penelitian ini ada pada bagaimana Rodgers menyuarakan perhatiannya pada kehidupan, kondisi, dan masalah tekanan sosial pada masyarakat Afrika Amerika melalui puisi puisinya dan menemukan cara puisi puisi itu berbicara mengenai perempuan dan sekaligus merefleksikan agenda Feminis Kulit Hitam. Penelitian ini menganalisa puisi puisi Rodgers dalam buku The Heart as Ever Green dengan mengunakan teori Feminisme Kulit Hitam. Peneliti menggunakan teori feminis Kulit Hitam yang diusulkan oleh Bell Hooks. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan penyuaraan melawan penindasan ganda terhadap kaum perempuan Afrika Amerika. Puisi-puisi tersebut menunjukkan ketidaksetujuan terhadap penindasan dan diskriminasi terhadap kaum Afrika Amerika. Dalam puisi-puisi tersebut, penggambaran dalam ekspresi untuk menentang penindasan tersebut untuk mendapatkan kesetaraan dan kebebasan dalam penindasan untuk wanita Afrika Amerika dapat terlihat. Terdapat juga ide dalam membawa pendidikan untuk membuat Afrika Amerika menjadi setara dengan wanita-wanita kulit putih, dan yang terakhir adalah ide dalam membuat kaum laki-laki menjadi pasangan yang setara terhadap perempuan. The objectives of the thesis are aimed to find the search of equality as response to the life, condition and the problem of oppressions to the African- American society through Rodgers’ poems in this book and how that reflect the agenda of Black Feminism as a movement. The data source of of the research came from Rodgers’ poems book The Heart as Ever Green. The research is focused in the depiction the life, condition and the problems of oppressions to the African American society through her poems and finding how Rodgers’ poems talk about women and reflect the agenda of Black Feminism as a movement. The researcher also uses the Black Feminism theory to analyze. The study uses the theory of Black Feminism. This research analyzes Rodgers’ poems in the book The Heart as Ever Green by employing the Black feminist theory. The researcher uses the Black Feminist Theory proposed by Bell Hooks. The result of the analysis shows about the the voice againsts the double oppressions to the African-Americans especially the African-American Women. The poems reflect the objection to the oppressions, and discrimination both to the African American people and also the African American Women. In the poems, the depiction of the expression on challenging the oppressions to get the equality and the freedom from oppressions for the African American women can be seen. There is also the voice of the objection to the subordination of the women. There is the idea of bringing education to make the African American equals with the white women and the last one is idea of making the men to be the equal partner to women.
