Skripsi ini mendiskusikan peran dan status wanita China yang terlihat di novel The Good Earth karya Pearl S Buck. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan pandangan penulis tentang peran dan status wanita China di akhir abad 19 seperti tercermin di novel. Data penelitian diambil dari perpustakaan.Sumber inti adalah novel The Good Earth. Data ini dilengkapi dengan biografi Pearl S Buck dan sumber lain yang mengacu pada penelitian. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan pendekatan ekspresif. Penelitian ini menganalisis tiga peran dan status wanita yang ditemukan di The Good Earth. Mereka adalah istri, gundik dan budak. Istri diwakili oleh O-lan yang dulunya seorang budak. Istri digambarkan sebagai seorang wanita yang bekerja keras untuk keluarganya, tidak pernah mengeluh dan mandiri. Selanjutnya, gundik yang kerjanya memberikan kesenangan dan kenyamanan pada laki-laki diperlihatkan Lotus. Akhirnya dia menjadi istri kedua. Terakhir adalah Pear, seorang budak yang setia melayani majikannya dan kemudian statusnya berubah menjadi seorang gundik.

This graduating paper discusses the role and status of Chinese Women as seen in novel The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck. The aim of the research is to describe the author's view concerning role and status of Chinese women in late 19th century as reflected in the novel. The research data are collected from library study. The main source is the novel The Good Earth. It is completed by the biography of Pearl S Buck and other sources related to the research. This research applies an expressive approach. This research analyzes three women's roles and statuses found in The Good Earth. They are wife, concubine and slave. The wife is represented by O-lan who is formerly a slave. The wife is described as a woman who works hard for their family, never complains, and is independent. Next, the concubine whose work is to give joy and pleasure to men is shown by Lotus. Later she becomes a second wife. Last is Pear, a slave who faithfully serves her master and finally her status become a concubine.
