The Syntactic Use of The Word As Found in The Jakarta Post's Articles

Penelitian ini akan membuktikan keberadaan kata as berdasarkan teori Huddleston dan Leech tentang definisi dari keempat kategori tersebut. Data di penelitian ini akan diambil dari dua edisi koran The Jakarta Post. Kemudian, data tersebut akan dianalisa berdasarkan bentuk, komplemen, fungsi, dan artinya. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa kata as dapat benar-benar dikategorikan ke dalam kategori kata keterangan, preposisi, subordinator, dan koordinator. Perbedaan yang membentuk kategori kata as dapat dilihat dari bentuk, komplemen, fungsi dan arti dari setiap kategori. Penelitian ini juga menyuguhkan fakta bahwa kata as paling sering digunakan sebagai preposisi dalam artikel The Jakarta Post.
The word as is believed to have more than one category, which are adverbs, prepositions, subordinators, and coordinators. This research will prove the existence of the word as based on Huddleston and Leech's definition of the four categories. The data will be taken from two editions of The Jakarta Post newspaper. The data will then be analyzed based on their forms, complements, functions, and meanings to determine their categories. The research proves that the word as can really be categorized into adverb, preposition, subordinator, and coordinator category. The differences which categorized the word as can be seen from the forms, complements, functions, and meanings of each category. The research also gives the fact that the word as is mostly used as a preposition in The Jakarta Post's articles.
