PENGARUH UMUR TERHADAP KUALITAS SPERMA KALKUN (Meleagris gallopavo)

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik sperma kalkun siap kawin dari berbagai umur 9 (U9), 13 (U13), dan 17 (U17) bulan masing-masing sebanyak 3 ekor, terhadap motilitas dan viabilitas spermatozoanya. Pengambilan sperma dilakukan dengan cara mengurut bagian kloaka, pengambilan sperma kalkun dilakukan sebanyak 3 kali dalam satu minggu. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan analisis variansi rancangan Acak Lengkap Pola Searah. Apabila terdapat perbedaan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata volume sperma segar kalkun adalah U9 0,16±0,04 ml, U13 0,13±0,02 ml, dan U17 0,10±0,02 ml. Rata-rata pH sperma segar kalkun adalah U9 7,19±0,05, U13 7,12±0,10, dan U17 7,06±0,06. Rata-rata persentase motilitas sperma segar kalkun adalah U9 78,11±1,38%, U13 82,55±1,17%, dan U17 74,55±4,16%. Rata-rata persentase viabilitas sperma segar kalkun adalah U9 78,63±1,55%, U13 83,26±1,54%, dan U17 79,20±1,06%. Rata-rata persentase abnormalitas spermatozoa kalkun adalah U9 3,01±0,04%, U13 3,04±0,88%, dan U17 3,21±0,44%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa umur kalkun yang terbaik untuk dijadikan sebagai pejantan adalah umur 13 bulan. Kalkun umur di atas 17 bulan memiliki kualitas sel sperma yang semakin menurun.

The goal of present study was to evaluate the effect of local turkey age on some of the semen quality parameters. For this research, 9 local turkeys were classified into three treatment groups according their ages: 9 (U9), 13 (U13), and 17 (U17) months and replicated three times each. All of semen from three groups were collected by abdominal massage method. Semen samples were examined macroscopically and microscopically for quality parameters (volume, pH, viscosity, concentration, motility, viability and morphological defect rates of spermatozoa). The data were analyzed by using analysis of variance in a completed randomize design (CRD) followed by Duncan's new multiple range test (DMRT). The results showed that the average volume of fresh semen turkey were U9 0.16 ± 0.04 ml, U13 0.13 ± 0.02 ml, and U17 0.10 ± 0.02 ml. The average of pH of fresh turkey semen on U9, U13, and U17 were 7.19 ± 0.05, 7.12 ± 0.10, and 7.06 ± 0.06 respectively. The average of motility of fresh turkey semen on U9, U13, and U17 were 78.11 ± 1.38%, 82.55 ± 1.17%, and 74.55 ± 4.16% respectively. The average of viability of fresh turkey semen on U9, U13, and U17 were 78.63 ± 1.55%, 83.26 ± 1.54%, and 79.20 ± 1.06% respectively. The average of abnormal of fresh turkey semen on U9, U13, and U17 were 3.01 ± 0.04%, 3.04 ± 0.88%, and 3.21 ± 0.44% respectively. In conclusion, the best local turkey to serve as the study was aged 13 months. Turkeys aged over 17 months have decrease semen quality.
