Penelitian ini fokus pada studi relasi kekuasaan dalam wacana perang global melawan terorisme. Istilah wacana dalam tesis ini digunakan untuk memahami bahwa realitas merupakan hasil konstruksi yang dipropduksi dan direproduksi melalui praktek diskursif dan sistem makna. Wacana dalam konteks perang global melawan terorisme bukan hanya cerminan terhadap realitas, tetapi juga sebuah konsep yang menetapkan dan memberikan makna spesifik terhadap realitas keamanan kontemporer. Perang global melawan terorisme mensyaratkan lebih dari tradisi politik konvensional, tetapi juga menempatkan wacana sebagai narasi sejarah yang membentuk keyakinan kolektif dan meruntuhkan keraguan publi terhadap tragedi 9/11. Tesis ini dibuat tidak untuk mendukung ataupun menentang kelompok yang terlibat dalam perang melawan terror, melainkan untuk mengkaji kekuasaan dari sarang persembunyiannya yang terdalan dan fokus pada mekanisme kekuasaan untuk menciptakan subjek yang patuh, dan merepresentasikan identitas serta menempatkan kembali pengetahuan lama menjadi pengetahuan yang baru dalam konteks perang melawan teror. Sebagai tambahan, penelitian ini ingin melacak symptom-simptom kekuasaan berdasaerkan perspektif pascamodernisme.

This research focused on the study of power relations in global war on terror discourse. The term of 'discourse' in this thesis is used to understanding that reality as a socially constructed reality that is produced and reproduced through discursive practices and systems of meaning which is socially accepted and evolved into the public awareness. Discourse in the context of global war on terror is not only the reflection of reality, but a concept which establishes and gives a specific of meaning toward contemporary of security realities. Global war on terror requires more than just the conventional political tradition such as invasion, repression, propaganda or diplomacy, it is also takes discourse as a historical narrative which constructs collective response and eliminate the doubts of each individual to the 9/11 tragedy. This thesis is made not to support one of the parties associated with global war on terrorism, and not oppose the US power, but rather is intended to bring the realities of power. It focused on how power mechanism to make obedient subject, representation and displacing the order of knowledge around the terror and global security discourse. This study also linked with power relations between the cracks in the subject prior to the event 9/11. In addition, this thesis is a study to trace the symptoms of power from postmodern approach.
