Verbal Humor Found in Two and A Half Men Situation Comedy Season 1 Episodes 1-5

Penelitian ini membahas tentang humor verbal pada komedi situasi Two and A Half Men season 1, mulai dari episode 1-5. Penelitian ini disusun untuk menyelidiki bagaimana maksim dilanggar oleh para karakter untuk menimbulkan humor dan maksim mana dari Prinsip Kooperatif Grice yang dilanggar paling sering berdasarkan pada urutan kemunculannya. Penelitian ini terfokus kepada aspek Pragmatik. Dialog-dialog diambil dari lima episode, ditulis, dan kemudian dianalisa oleh peneliti. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa informasi yang tidak mencukupi, jawaban yang tidak relevan, ambiguitas, kebohongan, dan jawaban yang bersifat ironi digunakan oleh karakter-karakter melalui dialog-dialog lucu mereka pada komedi situasi tersebut. Peneliti juga menemukan ada perbedaan jumlah pelanggaran maksim. Dari lima episode Two and a Half Men, ditemukan 39 kasus pelanggaran pada maksim relasi, 13 kasus pelanggaran pada maksim kuantitas, 9 kasus pelanggaran pada maksim kualitas, dan 1 kasus pelanggaran pada maksim tata krama ditemukan pada urutan kemunculan.

This research deals with verbal humor in the sitcom Two and A Half Men season 1, episodes 1-5. It investigates how the maxims are violated to arouse humor and which maxim of Grice's Cooperative Principle is violated most often based on the frequency of occurrence. The research focuses on the Pragmatic aspect. The dialogues are taken from the five episodes, transcribed, and then analyzed by the researcher. The result of the research shows that insufficient information, irrelevant answers, ambiguity, lie, and ironical answers are used by the characters through their humorous dialogues in the sitcom. The researcher also found out that there are different numbers of violation of maxim. From five episodes of the Two And A Half Men, there are 39 cases of violations of the maxim of relation, 13 cases of violations of the maxim of quantity, 9 cases of violations of the maxim of quality, and 1 case of violation of the maxim of manner are found based on its order of occurrence.
