STRUKTUR DAN PANDANGAN DUNIA A ROOM WITH A VIEW KARYA E.M. FORSTER : KAJIAN STRUKTURALISME GENETIK

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masalah tentang bagaimana perbedaan tata cara berperilaku, kepemilikan properti dan perbedaan kelas sosial seharusnya tidak menjadikan suatu relasi antara individu menjadi sulit. Namun dalam novel ARWV, hal-hal tersebut adalah suatu masalah yang menjadi penghalang dalam menjalin suatu relasi. Hal ini terjadi pada masyarakat Inggris kelas menengah ke atas di awal abad ke duapuluh. Dalam novel ARWV memperlihatkan bagaimana masyarakat Inggris ini dihadapkan dengan dunia yang memiliki cara hidup berbeda yang menentang nilai-nilai konvensi yang mereka anut. Oleh karena itu, penulis tertarik untuk menganalisis bagaimana struktur dan pandangan dunia pengarang yang diekspresikan dalam novel ARWV. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Strukturalisme Genetik yang dikembangkan oleh Lucien Goldmann. Teori ini membahas tentang karya sastra sebagai sebuah struktur tematik yang berpusat pada relasi antara tokoh hero dengan tokoh lain serta relasi antara tokoh hero dengan dunia disekitarnya. Struktur karya sastra ini homolog dengan pandangan dunia yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode dialektik. Metode ini bekerja dengan pemahaman bolak balik antara pandangan dunia, dan struktur teks. Terbagi atas dua tahap, pemahaman-penjelasan dan bagiankeseluruhan, dengan metode ini dapat diperoleh konsep struktur dan pandangan dunia pengarang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa struktur tematik novel ARWV mencerminkan tokoh hero mengalami problematika karena terdegradasi dan tidak otentik. Oleh karena itu, ia berusaha mencari nilai otentik tersebut melalui perjalanan yang dilakukannya. Dalam pencariannya, tokoh hero menjalin relasi dengan tokoh lain serta dunia disekitarnya. Dalam relasinya tersebut, tokoh hero dihadapkan dengan dilema antara relasi yang mendukung dan yang bertentangan dengan keinginannya. Demikian halnya dengan relasi antara tokoh hero dengan dunia. Keinginan yang dimaksud adalah bebas menjadi diri sendiri serta bebas memilih masa depannya sendiri. Berdasarkan pada pemikiran tersebut, maka tokoh hero memilih menjalin relasi dengan tokoh lain yang mendukung pemikirannya. Tokoh hero juga memilih menjalin relasi dengan dunia yang memberikan cara pandang yang sama dengannya. Pandangan dunia yang dimaksud adalah gambaran pandangan dunia humanisme liberal. The background of this study is the problem of how the different of propriety, property and social classes should not make a relation between the individual becomes difficult. However in this novel, these are the problem which is turn out to be the barrier in a personal relation. This arises in upper-middle class of England society in the early twentieth century. The novel ARWV shows how the society is faced with a different way of life that against their values of conventions. Therefore, the writer is interested to analyze the structure and author’s world view that are expressed in the novel. This study uses the Genetic Structuralism theory developed by Lucien Goldmann. The theory sees a literary work as a structure that is focused on the relation between the hero and his fellow men, as well as the relation between the hero and the world. The structure is homologous with the world view of a community. The method used is dialectical method which works by alternating between the world view and structure of the text. Divided into two stages, comprehension-explanation stage and part-whole stage, by using the method can obtain the structure and world view concept. The result shows that thematic structure of the novel ARWV indicates the hero experienced a problem due to degradation as well as inauthentic. Therefore, she attempts to find authentic values through her journey. In her quest, the hero establishes relationship with another and the world around. In her relations, hero is faced with a dilemma between the relation that support or against her will. The same way happens to the relation between the hero and the world. The hero wants to be herself and feel free to choose her own future. Thus, based on these ideas, the hero chooses to make a relation with another who support her thoughts, and also to the world with the same view with her. The world view is called liberal humanism.
