Fungsi Benteng Peninggalan Belanda DI Kabupaten Cilacap: Pendekatan Lokasional

Terdapat empat buah fasilitas peratahanan peninggalan Belanda di Kabupaten Cilacap. Keempat fasilitas tersebut masing-masing adalah benteng Pendem. Benteng Karang Bolong, Benteng Klingker, dan Mercusuar Cimiring. Keempat fasilitas ini dibangun oleh Belanda di dalam wilayah yang berdekatan. Dibangunnya keempat fasilitas tersebut di wilayah yang berdekatan sangat berkaitan erat dengan keberadaan pelabuhan di Kabupaten Cilacap. Pelabuhan ini mendukung transportasi komoditas yang terjadi dari pedalaman menuju ke pesisir. Walaupun memiliki fungsi yang berbeda, fasilitas-fasilitas tersebut memiliki keterkaitan fungsi satu sama lainnya karena dibangun di lokasi yang strategis untuk melakukan pengawasan dan pertahanan di wilayah pantai Cilacap. Semua fasilitas yang ada di Cilacap menunjukan pentingnya peran Cilacap pada masa lalu.

There are four defense facilities from Dutch era in Cilacap district. Those four facilities are Pendem Fort, Karang Bolong Fort, Klingker Fort and Cimiring Lighthouse. They were built by the Dutch in adjacent areas. The reason behind it is that those defense facilities are closely related to the existence of a port in Cilacap district. This port was supporting the commodity transport from hinterland to coastline. Despite of having different function of those defense facilities, they could support each other because they were built in a very strategic location to watch and defend Cilacap port. Cilacap port was one of many other facilities that ever exist in Cilacap. All of those facilities showed the importance of Cilacap district in the past.
