Sejarah Sosial Kristenisasi di Tobelo 1866-1942

Tesis ini membahas proses Kristenisasi di Tobelo 1866-1942 dan dampak sosial bagi masyarakat setempat. Kajian mengenai sejarah agama Kristen sejauh ini hanya terfokus pada aspek teologis, sementara agama sebagai pendorong perubahan sosial budaya di Tobelo belum dikaji secara serius oleh sejarawan. Permasalahan pokok dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana proses Kristenisasi itu terjadi, dan apa dampaknya secara sosial sehingga banyak penduduk Tobelo melakukan konversi ke agama Kristen dalam ruang Kesultanan Ternate yang berkultur Islam. Tesis ini akan menunjukkan bagaimana metode-metode penginjilan melahirkan perubahan-perubahan sosial budaya dalam kehidupan masyarakat Tobelo. Sumber-sumber yang digunakan meliputi sumber primer berupa arsip, dan sumbersumber sekuder, artikel, buku, jurnal, dan lain-lain digunakan dalam kajian ini. Tesis ini berkesimpulan bahwa masuknya penginjil di Tobelo didorong kepentingan politik antara Residen Belanda dan Kesultanan Ternate. Suksesnya penginjilan yang dilakukan di Tobelo, disebabkan para penginjil tidak memfokuskan diri mereka dalam bidang teologi semata melainkan pada pemberian pelayanan dalam bidang pendidikan dan kesehatan dengan melihat kondisi sosial yang terjadi di wilayah penginjilan. Perkembangan agama Kristen yang terjadi di Tobelo 1866-1942 memberi sumbangsih terhadap kemajuan dan perubahan sosial budaya pada masyarakat Tobelo, seiring berlangsungnya penyediaan pendidikan Kristen dan pelayanan kesehatan.

This thesis observes the proses of Christianization in Tobelo 1866-1942 and the social impact for the local society. The analysis is based on the history of Christian as the fundamental knowledge on doing research and focus on theologies’ aspect, while religion as trigger of social culture change in tobelo which is not researched yet seriously by historian. The main problem in this research are how is the process of Christianization happened and what is the social impact that make lots of Tobelo’ resident doing conversion to Christian religion within the Sultanate of Ternate. This research attempts to analize how the methods of evangelize presented the changes of social culture on the life of Tobelo resident. The sources of this research including archieves as primary source and secunder sorce, articles, books, journals, and any support datas. This thesis conclude that the entry of evangelists in Tobelo are pushed by politic’ interest between resident of Dutch and the Sultanate of Ternate. The success of evangelize in Tobelo, because the evangelists did not focus only on teologies’ field but they’re also giving service on education and health field. The development of Christian religion happened in Tobelo 1866-1942 give contribution to the progress and social’ change on Tobelo society, along with equipping the education of Christian and the service of health.
