PEMAKNAAN SIMBOL-SIMBOL MITOS DALAM NOVEL GRAFIS LASCENSION DU HAUT MAL KARYA DAVID BEAUCHARD (KAJIAN MITOLOGI ROLAND BARTHES)

Novel grafis LAscension du haut mal yang ditulis oleh David Beauchard dan diterbitkan pada tahun 2006 adalah objek material skripsi ini. Novel grafis tersebut menceritakan tentang sebuah keluarga yang berjuang untuk merawat dan mengobati salah satu anggotanya yang menderita penyakit epilepsi. Penceritaan kisah tersebut menggunakan simbol-simbol yang memiliki makna tersirat. Makna tersirat tersebut perlu diketahui agar pesan yang terkandung dalam novel grafis ini dapat dipahami sepenuhnya oleh pembaca. Analisis diawali dengan pembacaan karya secara keseluruhan. Selanjutnya dilakukan pemotongan panel-panel yang gambarnya mengandung simbol. Simbol-simbol tersebut dianalisis menggunakan teori mitologi Roland Barthes. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa novel grafis LAscension du haut mal memiliki mitos berupa makna filosofis yang terdistorsi dalam judul novel grafis ini. Selain itu, diketahui juga bahwa simbol-simbol yang muncul merupakan wujud mitos yang telah terdeformasi. Simbol-simbol mitos tersebut juga memiliki pola tertentu yang diterapkan pada seluruh penggambaran cerita. Pola tersebut dapat digunakan untuk memaknai setiap simbol mitos yang terdapat dalam novel grafis LAscension du haut mal.

This final project is studying 2006s graphic novel LAscension du haut mal by David Beauchard. The story is about a family who is fighting on taking care one of their members who suffer from epilepsy disease. The story was delivered using some symbols that have intrinsic meaning. The point is that the readers should know this intrinsic meaning so that the message of the story could be delivered well. Reading the graphic novel is the first step of analysis. Then the writer took the panels from the graphic novel that contains implicit symbols. Those panels with symbols were analyzed using Roland Barthes mythology theory. This study revealed that graphic novel LAscension du haut mal have philosophical meaning that distorted on its title. Besides, the symbols occurred in the novel is the form of deformed myth. These mythological symbols also have certain pattern that applied on the entire symbols of graphic novel LAscension du haut mal.
