Background and Purpose: Stroke is in number three leading cause of death worldwide and the major cause of disability in developed country. Ischemic stroke is more frequent and has a much wider range of outcome if compared to another type of stroke. Outcome of stroke can be influenced by monitoring and control of several clinical conditions that related to the stroke. Many studies associate body temperature can affect the outcome of stroke patient. The objective of this study is to observe the relationship between body temperature and functional outcome of ischemic stroke patient that measured by barthel index score. The aim of this study is to see if there is association between body temperature and outcome functional in order to increase the awareness of clinician in monitoring and measuring the body temperature to have a better outcome. Method: This study used cross sectional method using medical record of stroke patients who were admitted to Sardjito Hospital in year of 2012. Total 200 medical records were observed, 43 of them fulfilling criteria. Body temperature is measured at admission, while functional outcome is measured using Barthel Index at discharge. With several confounding variables, the data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and Independent t-test analysis. Results: In Pearson analysis, body temperature was found statistically significant in affecting functional outcome (P=0,017).In independent t-test also found that there was significantly difference between mean of barthel index score toward category of consciousness. Conclusion: Body temperature and consciousness together was significantly correlated with functional outcome.
