ANAK DAN INTERNET (Etnografi Praktik Penggunaan Internet Oleh Anak di Desa Ceper, Kecamatan Ceper, Kabupaten Klaten)

This study aimed to describe the experiences of children in the practice of using the internet in internet cafes. Then, another purpose of this study was to describe the practice of adopting the value of the internet in everyday life of children and to map the impact and benefits of internet use by children. This study used a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Subjects were children of internet users in the internet cafe in Desa Ceper, Kecamatan Ceper, Klaten. Subjects have personally been actively using the internet in internet cafe, either regularly or periodically. Subjects are school-age children and preteens, whether they are in elementary school and junior high school with consideration of age 6-15 years old. Data obtained using the technique of participant observation , in depth interviews, and ethnographic notes. The results show that: (1) different backgrounds, both from the social economic, educational level of subjects and their parents, affect their experience in using the internet, (2) the obtained values of children when using the internet among are such as knowledge, information, entertainment, and socializing. In addition to the value obtained from informants with devices (computers and internet), children also get value between user. Value between user associated with the use of social media, such as Facebook, (3) use of the internet by children brings impact and benefits. Habits of children in the use of internet have an impact on family relationship and friendship. However, the results obtained between informants are almost the same, i.e. no much change they demonstrated to parents, family, and friends. Benefits of using the internet for most informants is for medium to learn, play, search and add friends, as well as an entertainment medium.
