Kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap aplikasi Location Based Service (LBS) sangat bervariatif, salah satunya adalah ketersediaan informasi mengenai layanan darurat. Informasi mengenai layanan darurat ini menjadi sangat dibutuhkan ketika terjadi suatu kejadian, misalnya kecelakaan lalulintas sehingga membutuhkan pertolongan cepat ke rumah sakit terdekat dan terjadinya kebakaran juga membutuhkan nomor telepon pemadam kebakaran secepatnya. Penggunaan buku telepon (yellow pages) dinilai kurang praktis saat ini setelah berkembangnya teknologi mobile phone. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, diperlukan suatu aplikasi layanan darurat untuk wilayah Yogyakarta pada pengguna yang menggunakan mobile phone dengan sistem operasi Android. Android dipilih sistem operasi karena merupakan platform open source yang memberikan kebebasan dalam mengembangkan aplikasi sesuai dengan yang diinginkan. Aplikasi layanan darurat untuk wilayah Yogyakarta pada pengguna yang menggunakan mobile phone dengan sistem operasi Android memanfaatkan teknologi Location Based Service. Dengan adanya aplikasi ini, dapat memberikan informasi mengenai layanan darurat yang dicari berdasarkan lokasi pengguna dan dapat melakukan pencarian mengenai layanan darurat untuk mendapatkan rute dan nomor teleponnya sekaligus.

The public demand of Location Based Service (LBS) application is very varied. One of them is the availability of the emergency services information. The emergency services information are necessarilly important when an incident occurs, such as traffic accidents that need urgent help to nearest hospitals and fire which requires urgent fire department phone number. Today the use of yellow pages is considered inefficient after the development of mobile phone technology. According to the problems, it is necessarily needed to have a search application of emergency services in Yogyakarta to Android mobile phone users. Android is chosen to be the operating system because it is an open source platform that provides the freedom to develop the desired application. The search application of emergency services in Yogyakarta to those using Android mobile phone with Location Based Service technology. With the application, it can provide important information about the emergency services being searched based on the user location as well as enable the search for emergency services to get the route and the phone number.
