PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN ETANOL TERHADAP BAHAN BAKAR PREMIUM UNTUK UNJUK KERJA MESIN BENSIN

Persedian minyak bumi yang terus menipis mendorong manusia menemukan teknologi untuk mengefisiensikan kinerja mesin. Penelitian juga dilakukan untuk mencari alternatif bahan bakar selain minyak bumi. Bahan– bahan yang sebelumnya tidak diperhitungkan sebagai bahan bakar di uji coba dan dikaji kelayakannya sebagai bahan bakar. Etanol adalah salah satu bahan bakar yang layak digunakan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Etanol memiliki rumus kimia C2H5OH. Keuntungan penggunaan etanol antara lain:1. Meningkatkan performa mesin, 2. Menurunkan emisi gas buang, 3. Mengurangi konsumsi bahan bakar. Etanol merupakan suatu cairan hasil dari proses fermentasi dan destilasi dari karbohidrat yang banyak terkandung pada hasil pertanian seperti: jagung, singkong, tebu, dan lain-lain. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh etanol terhadap bahan bakar premium untuk performa mesin bensin dan emisi gas buang. Variabel yang digukan adalah premium murni, penambahan E-5%, E-10% dan E- 15%. Hasil yang diperoh adalah performa mesin meningkat pada penambahan E- 5%. Sedangkan untuk emisi kadar etanol yang semakin tinggi mengakibatkan gas buang (emisi) berbahaya yang dihasilkan semakin rendah.

The dimination of petroleum supplies encourages people to find the technology to streamline the performance of the engine. The study was also conducted to look for alternative fuels other than petroleum. The materials that were previously not considered as a fuel were tested and assesed their feasibility as fuel. Ethanol is a fuel suitable to be used as an alternative fuel. Ethanol has the chemical formula C2H5OH. The advantages of using ethanol, among others, are : 1. To improve the performance the engine, 2. To reduce the exaust emission, 3. To reduce the consumtion of the fuel. Ethanol a result of fermentation and distillation process of carbohydrates contained in many crops such as maize, cassava, sugar cane, ect. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of ethanol on premium fuel for gasoline engine performance. The variables used were pure premium, the addition of E-5%, E-10% and E-15%. The result is the increase of engine performance to addition of the E-5%. For the emission of the higher ethanol content causes the dangerous exaust gas (emission) generated to became lower in number.
