PENGARUH HORMON TIROKSIN (T4) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BERAT BADAN TIKUS (Rattus norvegicus) GALUR WISTAR

Hormon tiroksin (T4) berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan karena memiliki efek pada metabolisme karbohidrat, lemak, vitamin, dan meningkatkan laju metabolisme basal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh hormon tiroksin (T4) terhadap pertumbuhan berat badan tikus galur wistar jantan maupun betina. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 15 ekor tikus jantan dan 15 ekor tikus betina galur Wistar berumur 1 bulan. Tikus ditimbang berat badannya seminggu sekali. Sampel darah diambil melalui sinus orbitalis sebulan sekali dengan menggunakan mikrohematokrit dan ditampung ke dalam tabung mikrotube steril yang kemudian disentrifuge untuk didapatkan serum darahnya. Serum darah diuji menggunakan uji ELISA untuk mengetahui kadar hormon tiroksin (T4). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan berat badan meningkat tajam pada minggu pertama sampai minggu ketiga tetapi konsentrasi hormon tiroksin relatif menurun setiap bulannya. Dengan perhitungan statistik tampak bahwa konsentrasi hormon tiroksin berkorelasi negatif dengan pertumbuhan berat badan, artinya semakin tinggi berat badan maka hormon tiroksin semakin rendah.

Thyroxine influences animal growth because it has an effect on the carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins metabolism; also increases the basal metabolism rate. The aim of this experiment is to determine the effect of thyroxine ( T4 ) on the weight gaining of male and female Wistar rat strain. This research used 15 male and 15 female Wistar rats aged 1 month. Rats weighed once a week. Blood samples were taken via the orbital sinus once a month by using micro-hematokrit and placed into a sterile micro-tube then it was centrifuged to obtain blood serum. Blood serum was tested using the ELISA test to determine the levels of the T4. The results showed that the body weight gained sharply in the first week to the third week but the relative concentrations of the thyroxine decreased each month. With statistical calculations it appeared that thyroxine concentrations were negatively correlated with weight gain, meaning when the weight gained, thyroxine decreased.
