ANALISIS DAN IMPLEMENTASI VIRTUALISASI DATA CENTER DI ICT CENTER FKIP UNS

Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) UNS, sebagai salah satu unit kerja di Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta, memerlukan beberapa sistem informasi untuk mengolah data. Pengelolaan sistem informasi tersebut dipercayakan kepada Unit ICT Center yang bertanggung jawab dibawah birokrasi FKIP UNS. Kebutuhan sistem informasi semakin meningkat, namun penambahan kebutuhan sistem informasi tersebut tidak sebanding dengan ketersediaan perangkat keras server yang ada. Diperlukan solusi untuk mengatasi keterbatasan sumber daya perangkat keras di FKIP UNS. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode virtualisasi hypervisor pada data center untuk mengatasi keterbatasan perangkat keras server, virtualisasi hypervisor menjadi pilihan karena memiliki overhead yang lebih rendah daripada virtualisasi jenis lain. Sedangkan perangkat lunak hypervisor yang digunakan adalah Proxmox VE. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan uji kinerja dari web server dan dilakukan perbandingan kinerja dari web server dalam lingkungan virtualisasi dan lingkungan fisik. Untuk menghasilkan perbandingan kinerja yang fair dengan konfigurasi yang sama, perbandingan kinerja dilakukan dengan cara melakukan replikasi web server dari lingkungan fisik ke lingkungan virtual. Hasil dari pengukuran kinerja pada web server ini adalah, web server yang berjalan pada lingkungan virtual dapat melayani pengguna sama seperti web server yang berjalan pada lingkungan fisik. Beberapa statistik menunjukkan penurunan kinerja, namun penurunan kinerja tersebut masih dapat diterima karena rata rata penurunan kinerja hanya sebesar 7,8 % dari kinerja saat web server berjalan pada lingkungan fisik. Selain itu, ICT Center FKIP UNS dapat menghemat pembiayaan server dan perangkat jaringan sampai sebesar 48,11 % untuk pembiayaan server dan 35,134 % untuk pembiayaan perangkat jaringan apabila menggunakan infrastruktur virtualisasi pada data center

Faculty of Teaching and Education Science ( FKIP ) UNS , as one unit at the Universitas Sebelas Maret, have some information systems for electric data proccesing. This information system was entrusted to their ICT Center whose have responsible under the FKIP bureaucracy. The needs for information systems applications is increasing, but the growth of the information system is not proportional to the availability of existing server hardware. We need a solution to overcome the limitations of hardware resources in FKIP UNS. In this research, we use hypervisor virtualization to overcome limitations of server hardware, hypervisor virtualization choosen because it has a lower overhead and better performance than other types of virtualization. While the hypervisor software is using Proxmox VE. In this research, we tested the performance of the web server, then we compare its with other environment (eg: physical web server and virtualized web server). In order to deliver the same configuration and fair result, before the performance comparison we replicate the web servers from physical servers to virtual servers. The results of performance measurements on this web server interpreted that web server that runs in a virtualized environment is still able to serve users as well as web server running on the physical environment. Some statistics show a decrease in performance, but the performance degradation is still acceptable because the average performance degradation is only 7.8 % than web server running on physical environment. In addition, the ICT Center FKIP UNS financing will save server and network devices by as much as 48.11% and 35.134% when using virtualization in the data center infrastructure.
