Peningkatkan produktivitas jati oleh Perhutani yaitu dengan penyediaan bibit unggul yaitu Jati Plus Perhutani (JPP) yang berasal dari Kebun Benih Klon (KBK). Dalam rangka penyediaan referensi pertumbuhan JPP maka diperlukan penelitian mengenai pertumbuhan JPP yang salah satunya mengenai tingkat kompetisi antar individu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kompetisi JPP pada batasan umur 6 tahun sampai 11 tahun di KPH Madiun. Zona kompetisi ditentukan berdasarkan empat ratus delapan puluh pohon sampel. Parameter penentuan zona kompetisi yaitu rata-rata jari-jari tajuk pada 4 arah mata angin serta tinggi tajuk terlebarnya. Zona kompetisi digunakan sebagai refrensi dalam penentuan indeks kompetisi. Penentuan indeks kompetisi menggunakan metode Hegyi pada tiap individu pohon. Parameter dalam perhitungan indeks kompetisi dengan metode Hegyi yaitu jarak antar individu pohon, diameter dan tinggi pohon. Zona kompetisi pada umur 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 dan 11 tahun berturut-turut sebesar 70,6o; 73,7o; 75,1o; 75,8 o; 76,1o; 76,2o. Nilai rata-rata indeks kompetisi pada umur 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 dan 11 tahun berturut-turut sebesar 0,148; 0,323; 0,9; 0,5; 0.77; 0,75. Kompetisi memiliki pengaruh yang besar terhadap pertumbuhan tegakan. Seiring dengan bertambahnya umur maka indeks kompetisi akan semakin bertambah besar. Kompetisi yang terlalu besar mengakibatkan pertumbuhan tegakan semakin terhambat.

The effort to improve the products of teak wood by Perhutani, provided high quality seeds that produces Jati Plus Perhutani (JPP). In order to provide the necessary reference growth of JPP, it need be researched about the level competition of JPP. The purpose of this research is to determine the competition level of JPP in the range between 6 to 11 years at KPH Madiun. The competition zone was determined based on 480 samples. The parameters of competition zone were the average crown projection with four cardinal directions and height of the widest crown. Competition zone was used as reference for competition index. Competition index calculated using Hegyi’s method in individual trees. The parameters of competition index were distance between individual trees, diameter, and height of trees. The competition zone in 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 years was accounted respectively 70.6° ,73.7° ,75.1° ,75.8° ,76.1° and 76.2o . The average range of the competition index in 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 years was accounted respectively 0,148; 0,323; 0,9; 0,5; 0.77; 0,75. The conclusion is the larger index value was higher competition occurs, so that It affected the tree’s growth especially the stem’s growth.
