REALISME MAGIS DALAM NOVEL THE SATANIC VERSES KARYA SALMAN RUSHDIE

Fokus dalam penelitian ini ialah fenomena realisme magis karya sastra The Satanic Verses yang ditulis oleh Salman Rushdie sebagai seorang imigran India di Britania. Melalui teknik naratif realisme magis, pengarang membawa dunia mitos lokal dan mempertemukannya dengan dunia empiris Barat sehingga menghapuskan batas-batas georgrafis resmi yang membatas ciri lokal karya tersebut. Karya ini menghadirkan dunia yang mempertemukan oposisi biner riil dan magis melalui perspektif pengalamannya sebagai seorang imigran India di Britania. Pengarang juga menggunakan teknik naratif realisme magis ini untuk merespon permasalahan-permasalahan yang juga menjadi sorotan isu dalam konteks sosial, ideologis dan diskursif. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teori naratif realisme magis yang ditulis oleh Wendy B. Faris dalam bukunya Ordinary Enchantments Magical Realism and Remystifiction of Narratives. Realisme magis ini sendiri dapat dipahami sebagai sebuah cara pandang yang berlandaskan pada semangat pascamodernisme untuk melihat fenomena-fenomena kehidupan dengan cara yang selama ini cenderung dimarjinalisasi oleh modernisme. Langkah pertama dalam penelitian berdasarkan teori ini ialah menentukan elemen-elemennya, kemudian mencari relasi-relasi diantaranya dan kemudian menyimpulkan gradasi hirarkis antara magis dan riil. Langkah selanjutnya ialah mencari konteks sosial, ideologis dan diskursif yang sesuai beranalog dengan tema novel The Satanic Verses. Pengarang melihat elemen-elemen magis sebagai sebuah cara pandang alternatif untuk melihat fenomena-fenomena dunia riil. Unsur-unsur magis ini menjelma jauh kedalam tokoh-tokoh dan peristiwa-peristiwanya. Selain perwujudan magis yang kongkret tersebut, kehadiran unsur magis juga berfungsi untuk menyoroti isu-isu terkait yang kontekstual dengan karya tersebut seperti fenomena rasialisme, pascakolonialisme dan multikulturalisme. Melihat pada struktur teks maupun konteks yang terkait, maka karya tersebut dapat disimpulkan sebagai sebuah karya sastra realisme magis.

-The fokus in this research is The Satanic Verses literary work magic realisme phenomena written by Salman Rushdie as an Indian immigrant in Britain. Throug magic realisme narrative technique, the author brings local myth world and confront it with West empirical world, thus erases the formal geographic boundaries which limit local feature of the work. This work presents a world which confronts the oppositionanl binary of real and magic through an Indian immigrant in Britain experience perspective. The author also utilizes the magic realism narrative technique to respond to the problems which also becomes the main issue in social, ideological and discursive context. This research utilizes magic realism narrative theory written by Wendy B. Faris on her book Ordinary Enchantments Magical Realism and Remystifiction of Narratives. The magic realism itself also understandable as the manner of viewing based on postmodernism spirit to view the phenomena of life with the manner which now tend to be marginalized by modernism. The first phase of the research with regards to the theory is to determine the elements, then to search for relations among them and later to conclude the hierarchical gradation between the magic and the real. The subsequent step is to find for social, ideological dan discursive context which analog to the theme of the novel Satanic Verses. The author sees the magical elements as an alternative way of viewing to see the phenomena of the real world. The elements of magic manifests far within the characters dan the events. Beside the concrete magical manifestation, the presence of the magical elements are also to spot the related issues which contextually are having relation with the works such as rasialism, postcolonialism and multiculturalism phenomena. Seeing the structure of the text and the related context, the work may be concluded as a magic realism work of literature.
