Background: In this study, we will find correlation between BMI and GERDQ score. Increasing BMI is associated with increased incidence of GERD symptoms. Obesity is one of the risk factor for GERD. An obese individual has higher risk to has history of GERD or heartburn compared to non-obese individuals. The prevalence of GERD in obese individuals ranges from 8- 26%. Objective: To know the correlation between body mass index and gastroesophageal reflux disease score in gastroesophageal reflux disease. Method: This study is a cross sectional study using consecutive sampling method. 23 patients are included in this research. To find the GERD questionnaire score, interview with the patients are done using GERDQ. Body weight and height of the patients are also measured and the body mass index of each patients is calculated. Result: Data is tested by distribution test using Shapiro Wilk test. Correlation is analysed by spearmen correlation test. Difference of GERD score between the BMI category is analyzed using non parametric test. The result obtain in this research is not significant with weak negative correlation between BMI and GERDQ score. The correlation coefficient is -0.255 and the p-value is 0.239. Conclusion: Based on the study, there is no correlation between body mass index (BMI) and gastroesophageal reflux score in gastroesophageal reflux disease.
