2014 | Skripsi | PENDIDIKAN DOKTERBackground: The issue of mental health dissorders is a problem faced by the society. The increase of depression and anxiety, leading to impaired working qualities and decreased intellectual output is a common problem seen in the working environment, especially in medical students. Because music practise is thought to be stress releasing, this research assesses the difference in anxiety level of music playing medical students and non music playing medical students of Universitas Gadjah Mada. Objectives: The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of anxiety in medical students and to see whether there is a different anxiety level in music playing medeical students and non music playing students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. The subject of this research were 133 medical students of Universitas Gadjah Mada. These students were purposively chosen and were distributed a personal data questionnaire and a TMAS scale. The answers given were analyzed using the SPSS 10 using the chi-square test. Results: In this study it was found that 40.8% of the students experienced anxiety. There was no significant correlation between the music playing and anxiety (p=0.917 with 95%CI)(p > 0.05). Conclusion: The result suggests that anxiety is a multifactoral symptom, so that music playing can decrease anxiety but activities such as meeting friends and sports may also influence anxiety levels.
