In order to make good decisions in transportation, decision-makers need some references to support the decision. One of those references is to perform a micro-simulation; a model for representing real-world conditions including the behavior of travelers, vehicles and the infrastructure. This study is using SUMO (a non-commercial micro-simulation software) for identifying advantages and disadvantages of this applications in relation to the study object Södralänken, that is E266 and E75, in south part of Stockholm, Sweden. The calibration conducted using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) computed based on observed flow and speed data of the model output. The result of the smallest RMSE then validated against observation data. Afterward, the observation, the SUMO, and the IHCM-1997 data compared in the term of flow, speed and density using morning and afternoon peak hour to find which one is better in comparison. Reaction time (Tau) and driver imperfection (sigma) became the two variables changed in the calibration process which gave more significant or better result to the calibration. The calibration processes resulting four different RMSE values. Morning speed data gives 9,991 value of RMSE with the combination of tau 1,7 and sigma 0,3. Morning flow data gives 18,841 value of RMSE with the combination of tau 1,4 and sigma 0,2. While for the afternoon, the speed data gives 7,430 and the flow gives 21,983 value of RMSE with the same combination of tau and sigma which are 1,8 for the tau and 0,1 for the sigma. Final result of this comparison gives SUMO better result than IHCM-1997 when compared to observation data in term of speed. The speed of IHCM-1997 is higher than SUMO and observation data either in the morning or in the afternoon.
