Perception, Feeling and Thought of Love and Early Marriage Life as found in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese

Skripsi ini menganalisis persepsi, perasaan, dan pemikiran terhadap cinta dan awal kehidupan pernikahan yang ditemukan dalam karya Elizabeth Barrett Browning yang berjudul Sonnets from the Portuguese. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi, perasaan, dan pemikiran penulis terhadap cinta dan untuk mengamati kehidupan pernihakan penulis dan suaminya yang tergambar dalam karya tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ekspresif untuk membantu menemukan persepsi, perasaan, dan pemikiran penulis terhadap cinta yang tergambar di dalam karyanya. Teori ini juga digunakan untuk menyelidiki pengalaman hidup penulis yang ditemukan di sonnets. Data utama atau obyek utama penelitian yang digunakan adalah karya sastra itu sendiri yaitu Sonnets from the Portuguese. Data pendukungnya adalah biografi dan surat-surat milik Elizabeth Barrett Browning dan suaminya, Robert Browning. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi terhadap cinta merupakan hasil dari tindakan ekspresif Elizabeth dalam memahami cinta itu sendiri dengan pemahaman yang mendalam yang melibatkan kesadaran terhadap posisi dan kehormatan kekasihnya dan dirinya sendiri. Namun, ide-ide tentang cinta dipatahkan oleh emosi cintanya. Dia mengungkapkan hal ini dengan ekspresi menyenangkan yang hiperbolik dengan memuliakan kebaikan kekasihnya. Selain itu, ia didukung oleh kekuatan cinta untuk membuat pertimbangan dalam hidupnya untuk menentukan jalan hidupnya sendiri bahwa ia menyerahkan hidupnya kepada Robert Browning dengan menyetujui untuk menikah dengannya yang menunjukkan tindakan ekspresif cinta terbesarnya. Dengan demikian, cinta telah memberinya kesempatan untuk mendapatkan kebahagiaan dalam masa hidupnya.

This graduating paper analyzes perception, feeling and thought of love and early marriage life as found in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese. The objectives of this research are to discover the author’s perception, feelings, and thoughts of love and to observe the early marriage life of the author and her husband depicted in it. This research uses expressive theory to help finding the perception, feeling, and thought of the author depicted in it. Also, it is used to explore the life experiences of the author as found in the sonnets. The primary data or the main object of the research is the literary work itself that is Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese. The secondary data are the biography and letters of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and also her husband, Robert Browning. The results of this research show that the perceptions of love are the products of Elizabeth’s expressive act in conceiving the love itself with deep understanding which involves the realization of position and respect of her lover and herself. However, her ideas of love are defeated by her emotion of love. She expresses this with hyperbolic delightful expression by glorifying her lover merit. Moreover, she is encouraged by the power of love to make consideration in her life to choose her own course of life that she surrenders her life to her lover by agreeing to marry Robert Browning which shows her greatest expressive act of love. Thus, love has given her the opportunity to gain happiness in her life time.
