Background. Iron is essential mineral during growth and development, especially in newborns. Thus, early detection is important. The examination of iron status mostly used serum ferritin as indicator. While recently CHr (Content Hemoglobin for Reticulocyte) is stated as an early indicator of iron deficiency with relative cheaper cost. Objective. This study is aimed to learn the correlation between CHr and serum ferritin of newborns at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Yogyakarta. Method. This is a crosssectional study involving 273 newborns. Blood ssamples were taken from newborn’s umbilical cord right after delivered. Result. The mean of serum ferritin concentration of newborns at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Yogyakarta is 181,53 mg/dL (14,12 - 607,02 mg/dL). While the mean of CHr is 35,257 pg (24,3-42,6 pg). Both doesn’t have normal distribution. Thus, correlation test using Spearman’s and the calculation result is 0.435 (p>0.05). Conclusion. There is no correlation between CHr and serum Ferritin in Newborns at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Yogyakarta
