THE INCIDENCE OF STROKE IN RSUP DR. SARDJITO IN THE YEAR OF 2012 AND 2013

Background: Stroke is a worldwide and a leading cause of adult disabilities in United Kingdom. In United Kingdom, every five minutes, there are approximately about 152,000 cases is stroke every year. In England, the incidence of stroke is 178/100,000 in men and 139/100,000 in women. In Scotland it is 202/100,000 in men and 160/100,000 in women. Stroke is a type of cerebrovascular disease due to pathologic disorder of blood vessel usually arteries in the brain. Stroke can be divide into haemorrhagic stroke and ischaemic stroke. The risk factors that can lead to stroke are hypertension, cardiac disease, diabetes, hereditary, blood lipids, cholesterol, smoking, diet or obesity, soft water, race, age and gender. The main objective of this study is to find out about the incidence of stroke in RSUP Dr. Sardjito in the year of 2012 and 2013. With this data obtained, we can use them to make the earlier prevention to decrease the incidence of stroke. Aim: To determine the incidence of stroke among the stroke patients in RSUP Dr. Sardjito. Methods: This is a non-experimental research; it is a descriptive study. All the data from this study will be obtained from secondary data; the medical record of the stroke patients who have admitted to stroke unit of RSUP Dr. Sardjito. Results: There are some of the stroke risk factors are different between the year 2012 and 2013. Male patient in the year 2012 is 22.09% and 20.35% in female patients. In 2013, male patients is 31.4% and 26.16% in female patients. In 2012, there is 31.98% patients with hypertension and 40.70% in 2013. In dyslipidemia, there is 2.91% and 5.23% of patient having dyslipidemia in 2012 and 2013 respectively. There is 5.23% and 11.63% patients having diabetes mellitus in the year of 2012 and 2013 respectively. In smoking, for the year 2012, it is 8.72% patients is smoking and 12.21% patients is smoking in 2013. There is a slight fifference in range of age and the type of stroke in 2012 and Conclusion: There are differences of risk factors between the year of 2012 and 2013 such as age, gender and type of stroke. There are also same and small gap of differences in risk factors between the year of 2012 and 2013 such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and smoking.
