THE DIFFERENCE OF STROKE FACTOR BETWEEN PATIENT WHO LIVE IN RURAL AND URBAN AREA IN RSUP Dr. SARDJITO

Background: Stroke is a worldwide disease problem which does not only worried the poor countries, but in well-developed countries that have high standard of medical care as well. Stroke can be categorised into haemorrhagic and ischaemic stroke. Some of the risk factors are hypertension, cardiac disease, diabetes, heredity, blood lipids, cholesterol, smoking, diet/obesity, soft water, race, age, gender, haematocrit, and oral contraceptives. These risk factors can be categorised into modifiable and unmodifiable. The data of the risk factors of the stroke patients will be traced and taken from the stroke patient’s medical records. The main objective of this study is to find out what are the dominant stroke risk factors among the stroke patients in each rural and urban area. With this data in each area, we can use it to do earlier prevention and decrease the incidence of stroke. Aim: To determine the differences of stroke risk factors among the stroke patients who live in rural and urban area in RSUP Dr. Sardjito. Methods: This is a non-experimental research; it is a descriptive study using the retrospective method. All the data from this study will be obtained from secondary data; the medical record of the stroke patients who haveadmitted to stroke unit of RSUP Dr. Sardjito. Results: There are some of the stroke risk factors are different between the urban and rural area. Old age in the urban is 62.7% while in rural is 32.7%. TIA in the urban is 13.6% while in rural is 5.5%. Dyslipidemia in the urban is 11.9% and in the rural is 23.6%. Smoking in the urban is 22.0% and in the rural is 14.5%. Other risk factors such as gender, heredity, PAD, hypertension, DM, MI, alcohol, physical activity, and multiple risk factors shows only a small difference between urban and rural area patients. Conclusion: There are differences of risk factors between the urban and rural area such as old age, TIA, dyslipidemia, and smoking. There are also same and small gap of differences in risk factors between urban and rural such as gender, heredity, PAD, hypertension, DM, MI, alcohol, physical activity, and multiple risk factors.
