PULMONARY HYPERTENSION PROFILE OF ADULT ATRIAL SEPTAL DEFECT PATIENTS IN DR.SARDJITO HOSPITAL IN THE YEAR OF 2010- 2012

Background : Atrial septal defect is one of the most common congenital cardiac anomaly diagnosed in adults, with pulmonary hypertension as its long-term adverse outcome. Objective : The objective of this study is to find out the profile of pulmonary hypertension in adult atrial septal defect patients in Dr.Sardjito Hospital in the year of 2010-2012. Method : This was a retrospective descriptive study using the data from atrial septal defect registry of Cardiology Unit of Dr.Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta. Data analysis was done in December 2013. Result : Total number of patients in the study were 119 with the age of ≥18 years old and 79,8% were females. Most of them (93,3%) were ostium secundum ASD patients. 82 (73,9%) present with large defects. Of all patients, 34 had a severe tricuspid regurgitation, 48 had RVSP >60 mmHG, 8 with mPAP >55 mmHG. Overall, 51 patients out of 119 were categorized as having severe pulmonary hypertension. Conclusion : The severity of pulmonary hypertension is determined by few variables including mPAP and/or PASP and RVSP. Of all 119 patients in this study, 51 were diagnosed to have severe pulmonary hypertension.
