The eyes of the world have been focusing on the nuclear non-proliferation movement as the new wave of the world peace efforts. The aim of this movement is to regulate nuclear use in order to achieve peace and stable relations between countries of the world. But on practice, the nuclear non-proliferation effort is quite problematic on its own, there ha sn’t been any effective mea sure s to encourage nuclear-owning countries to give up their nuclear program for good. There have been several measures, either with force or persuasive to tackle this worldwide threat, but none of them seem to work out. Nuclear-owning country, such as North Korea has gathered attention for its reckless nuclear proliferation policy and has been gaining a lot of criticism from the neighbouring cuntries for executing such policies. Hence, the US, Japan, China, South Korea, and Russia decided to take a move, establishing a forum to give a listen to what North Korea has to say and try to br idge the misunderstadings to achieve a settlement on the nuclear issue, named the Six Party Talks. As one of the key actors, Japan played important role on the talks and was expected to give positive contribution to the North Korean nuclear non -proliferation process. O n the process, Jap an sh owed po licies wh ich sometimes didn’t go in line with the forum big ideas, which would be problem for the talks process. This bachelo r thesis was aimed to examine the factors circling a rou nd the Jap an’s p olicy choices during the Six Party Talks in 2003 until 2009.
