Seiring berkembangnya teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, SMS dinilai sebagai media yang efisien untuk mengirim dan menerima pemberitahuan penting. SMS gateway hadir sebagai media atau sarana penyedia informasi menggunakan SMS. Pada sebuah instansi akademik, seperti di Fakultas MIPA UGM, dibutuhkan suatu sistem sebagai media penyampaian informasi melalui SMS mengenai kegiatan akademik untuk jajaran instansi, dosen atau mahasiswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu merancang serta mengembangkan sistem yang dapat mengelola dan mendukung penyampaian informasi akademik melalui SMS di Fakultas MIPA Universitas Gadjah Mada. Sistem yang telah dibangun kemudian dapat menjadi alternatif dan memberikan kemudahan bagi pihak sekretariat di FMIPA UGM untuk penyampaian informasi akademik melalui media SMS. Penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah sistem manajemen SMS yang menyediakan layanan untuk mengelola dan menyampaikan informasi akademik menggunakan SMS. Adapun fitur-fitur yang terdapat pada sistem tersebut adalah pengelolaan kontak dan grup, pengelolaan pengguna, pengelolaan draft SMS, pengelolaan folder, pengaturan layanan SMS gateway, layanan SMS autoreply, layanan SMS pengingat dan fungsi SMS autoresend.

Along with the growth of information technology and telecommunications, SMS is considered as an efficient medium to send and receive important notifications. SMS gateway comes as media or facility of information provider based on SMS. In an academic institution, such as in the Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science UGM, need a system as a medium to deliver information about the academic activities for staff of institutions, lecturers or students. The purpose of this research is to design and develop a system that can manage and support the delivery of academic information via SMS in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada. The system that has been constructed then can be an alternative and gave easiness to the secretariat of the faculty for conveying information academic through the medium of SMS. This research produce an SMS management system that provides services to manage and deliver academic information using SMS. As for the features contained in the system is the contact and group management, user management, SMS draft management, folder management, setting of service SMS gateway, SMS autoreply, SMS reminders and functionality of SMS autoresend.
