THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMPLOYEES’ PERCEPTION AND ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: STUDY ON PROGO DFPARTMENT STORE YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara komitmen organisasi dalam bisnis keluarga pada dampak persepsi tersebut pada komitmen mereka untuk bisnis keluarga ini, yaitu Toko Progo di Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Studi ini ingin meneliti dampak persepsi kepuasan kerja dan persepsi karakteristik pekerjaan terhadap kedua dimensi komitmen organisasi yaitu: komitmen afektif (affective commitment) dan komitmen berkelanjutan (continuance commitment). Menurut Meyer dan Allen (1991), terdapat tiga jenis komitmen, tetapi di dalam penelitian ini hanya membahas dua jenis komitmen saja. Dikarenakan hasil dari penelitian terdahulunya menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar karyawan lebih berkomitmen dan memiliki pengaruh yang lebih signifikan dalam komitmen afektif (affective commitment) dan berkelanjutan (continuance commitment). Studi ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dimana 200 kuesioner didistribusikan dan hanya 176 yang dikembalikan dan dapat digunakan untuk analisis lebih lanjut. Kriteria responden yang diperlukan meliputi: karyawan yang sudah bekerja di perusahaan ini selama minimal satu tahun, pekerja tetap, usia minimum adalah 20 tahun. Mereka dipilih secara acak dari empat divisi yang berbeda dan mewakili seluruh karyawan di perusahaan. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa dalam hal komitmen karyawan Progo itu dilakukan dengan dimensi afektif dan berkesinambungan. Adapun persepsi karyawan, karyawan Progo itu cukup puas dalam hal kepuasan mereka terhadap pekerjaan, sedangkan karateristik pekerjaan terdapat di urutan kedua. Selain itu, hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa persepsi kepuasan kerja, karakteristik pekerjaan dirasakan ditemukan untuk menjadi positif dan signifikan berkorelasi dengan komitmen afektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya dirasakan kepuasan kerja dan karakteristik pekerjaan yang ditemukan secara signifikan dan berkorelasi positif dengan komitmen afektif dan berkelanjutan. Antara dua variabel independen kepuasan kerja memberikan pengaruh yang lebih besar terhadap komitmen organisasi. Hasil hipotesis dalam penelitian ini hasilnya semua positif dan tidak ada hipotesis yang ditolak.

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between organizational commitment in local family business, which is Progo Department Store in Yogyakarta, and the impact of such a perception on their commitment to this family business. Precisely, this study wanted to examine the impact of perceived job satisfaction and perceived job characteristics, on two dimensions of organizational commitment; those are: affective commitment and continuance commitment. Pursuant to Meyer and Allen (1991), there are three type of commitment, but this research only discusses two type of commitment. Due to the previous research showed that most of employees were more committed and have more significant influence in affective and continuous commitment. This research is a quantitative study where 200 questionnaires were distributed and only 176 were obtained and used for further analysis. The respondents were needed to have these characteristics: employees with minimum one year working time, permanent workers, minimum age was 20 years old. They were selected randomly from four different divisions, which representing all of employees in the company. The descriptive analysis results showed that in terms of employee commitment, the employees of Progo Department Store were committed in the affective and continuous dimensions of commitment. As for the employee perception, Progo’s employees were quite satisfied especially in terms of their satisfaction towards the job. However, they were less satisfied in terms of the job characteristics. Moreover, the regression analysis results showed that perceived job satisfaction, perceived job characteristics were found to be positively and significantly correlated with affective commitment. The results merely showed that perceived job satisfaction and job characteristics were found to be significantly and positively correlated with affective and continuous commitment. Between those two independent variables, job satisfaction gave more influence on the organizational commitment. The hypotheses results were all positive and no rejected hypothesis in this study.
