Obat generik adalah obat yang harga jualnya sudah ditetapkan Menteri Kesehatan melalui Keputusan menteri Kesehatan. Kesehatan dewasa ini sudah masuk ke dalam kebutuhan pokok manusia selain sandang, pangan dan papan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan harga obat generik di Kota Yogyakarta dan pengawasan yang dilakukan oleh Dinas Kesehatan. Dalam hal ini untuk melindungi hak masyarakat akan kesehatan. Pembinaan dan pengawasan terhadap harga jual obat generik dilakukan oleh Dinas Kesehatan sesuai lingkup kewenangannya. Akan tetapi tugas dari Dinas Kesehatan tersebut yang berasal dari delegasi Menteri Kesehatan belum dilakukan
