PERBEDAAN FREKUENSI KARIES GIGI PENYANGGA GTSL RESIN AKRILIK DAN THERMOPLASTIK NILON PADA PASIEN RSGM PROF. SOEDOMO

Gigi tiruan sebagian lepasan (GTSL) merupakan gigi tiruan yang menggantikan satu atau lebih gigi asli yang hilang didukung oleh gigi dan mukosa, serta dapat dilepas dan dipasang oleh pasien. GTSL resin akrilik dan GTSL thermoplastik nilon merupakan bahan yang digunakan pada GTSL. Komponen dari GTSL salah satunya adalah cengkeram yang melingkari gigi penyangga. Efek samping pemakaian GTSL dalam jangka waktu yang panjang yaitu rusaknya jaringan periodontal dan karies pada gigi penyangga. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui perbedaan frekuensi karies gigi penyangga GTSL resin akrilik dengan GTSL nilon thermoplastik. Penelitian ini menggunakan 32 sampel yang terbagi ke dalam 2 kelompok, yaitu 1 kelompok GTSL resin akrilik dan 1 kelompok GTSL thermoplastik nilon. Setiap kelompok diperiksa karies pada gigi penyangga. Karies dinilai menjadi 3 tingkatan, karies pada 2 gigi penyangga atau lebih diberi nilai 2, karies pada 1 gigi penyangga diberi nilai 1 dan tidak terdapat karies gigi penyangga diberi nilai 0. Hasil dari data yang didapat menunjukkan adanya perbedaan frekuensi karies pada gigi penyangga GTSL resin akrilik dengan GTSL nilon thermoplastik. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah frekuensi karies pada gigi penyangga GTSL resin akrilik lebih tinggi dibanding GTSL nilon thermoplastik pada pasien RSGM Prof. Soedomo FKG UGM periode 2011 – 2013.

Removable partial dentures (RPDs) is an artificial tooth which replaces one or more missing teeth and attached parts, supported by teeth and mucosa, it also can be removed and inserted by the patients. Acrylic resin RPD and thermoplastic nylon RPD are materials use in RPDs. One of the components of RPD is clasp which surrounds the abutment teeth. Adverse effect of RPD’s long term use is a destruction of periodontal tissue and caries in abutment teeth. The aim of this study was to observe the abutment teeth’s caries frequency differences of acrylic resin RPD with thermoplastic nylon RPD. This study was used 32 samples which divided into two groups; a group of acrylic resin RPD and a group of thermoplastic nylon RPD. Each group was examined its caries on abutment teeth. Abutment teeth’s caries were scored into three levels; score of caries in two or more abutment teeth was two, score of caries in one abutment teeth was one, and score of no caries in abutment teeth was zero. From the gathered data there were difference in caries frequency on acrylic resin RPD and thermoplastic nylon RPD. The conclusion from this study was the caries frequency in abutment teeth’s acrylic resin RPD was higher than thermoplastic nylon RPD of patient Prof. Soedomo Dental Hospital Faculty of Dentistry Gadjah Mada University in 2011 – 2013 period.
