PATIENT’S PERCEPTION OF DOCTORS ASKING THEM ABOUT THEIR DIET RELATED TO THEIR CURRENT CLINICAL ILLNESS IN PUSKESMAS IN YOGYAKARTA

It is Background: The number of people suffering from noncommunicable disease (NCD) keeps increasing each year. known that carrying out a healthy lifestyle such as physical activity, good nutrition, not smoking and not consuming alcohol can prevent a person from suffering NCD. To make patients comply to doctor‟s treatment plan it was found that good doctor-patient relationship and communication is needed. In this study we examine the anamnesis part of doctor-patient communication; we try to see if doctors ask patients about their lifestyle. In this study we examine the diet aspect of lifestyle and see if patients think it is important that doctor ask them about diet. Objectives: The objective of this study is to find out the patient‟s perspective about doctor asking them about their diet in patients who visit puskesmas in Yogyakarta. A cross Methods: -sectional study was used to assess the correlation between the perception of patients about doctor asking them about diet and their current illness in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A number of 205 patients were undertaken from ten health center for this study. Results: From 205 patients, as much as 30.8% respondents have a healthy diet and 32.2% did frequent exercise. It was found that only 29.8% doctors did diet assessment, whilst the number of patients that expected the doctor to ask was 76.1%. There was no correlation found between current illness and the patient‟s perception of doctors asking them about diet, however we found that there was a correlation between gender (p = 0.050) and doctor assessment of diet (p = 0.050) and patient‟s perception of doctors asking them about diet. Conclusion: No correlation was found between current illness, correlation between illness and diet and age of patients with their perception of doctors asking them about diet. On the other hand, there is a correlation between doctor assessment on diet and gender with healthy patient‟s perception of doctors asking them about diet
