PENGARUH STRUKTUR PASAR TERHADAP PROFITABILITAS INDUSTRI PERBANKAN INDONESIA

Terdapat dua hipotesis dalam menganalisis hubungan antara struktur pasar dan kinerja (profitabilitas) sebuah industri. Pertama, hipotesis Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) yang mendasarkan pada perilaku penguasaan pasar. Kedua, hipotesis Efficient Structure (ES) yang mendasarkan pada perilaku efisien dari pelaku usaha. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis manakah dari kedua hipotesis tersebut yang mencerminkan industri perbankan Indonesia. Hasil dari analisis panel data yang dilakukan dengan sampel 10 bank umum terbesar selama periode 2008 hingga 2012 menunjukkan bahwa baik hipotesis tradisional SCP maupun hipotesis Efficient Structure, keduanya tidak berlaku dalam menganalisis hubungan struktur pasar dan profitabilitas industri perbankan Indonesia. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa industri perbankan Indonesia tidak terkonsentrasi pada empat perbankan terbesar dan profitabilitas industri perbankan Indonesia tidak dipengaruhi oleh perilaku efisien.

There are two competing hypothesis with regard to market structure and performance in industrial organization. First, Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) hypothesis which emphasized on market power. Second, Efficient Structure (ES) hypothesis which emphasized on market efficiency. The objective of this study is to analyze which hypothesis from both that reflects Indonesia’s commercial banking industry. The result of the panel data analysis conducted on a sample of 10 biggest commercial banks over the period from 2008 to 2012 showed to reject both hypothesis. This study finds that Indonesia’s banking industry doesn’t concentrated on the biggest four banks and the profitability of Indonesia’s banking industry doesn’t determined by efficiency behavior.
